Pune: Incessant rains continued to lash Western Maharashtra and rest of the state even as rail and road traffic between Pune and Mumbai remained paralysed today.
Most of the trains running between the two cities were cancelled after a landslide occurred in the ghat section near Khandala, railway officials said.
Vehicular traffic on the Pune-Mumbai express way too was affected due to heavy rainfall and was diverted, sources said.
The MET office forecast said heavy rainfall was expected all over the state during the next 48 hours, including Konkan and Mumbai as well as North Madhya Maharashtra.
The city recorded 40 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours and some residents in the low lying areas across the bank of Mutha river were alerted, police said.
Meanwhile, most of the dams in Western Maharashtra recorded substantial increase in the water levels with the heavy downpour in the catchment areas. The rains have eased the drinking water situation considerably, sources said.
