Hockey Announces 2008-09 Captains

Sept. 16, 2008

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University hockey coach Scott Paluch and the Falcon hockey team announced Tuesday that they will have two captains for the 2008-09 season. Falcon senior defenseman Tim Maxwell and junior defenseman Kyle Page will both don the captain's "C", as they will share the honor of leading the brown and orange into battle this season.

Maxwell, who is entering his third full season with BG after transferring from the University of Maine after his rookie campaign, will captain the Falcons for the first time in his career in 2008-09. Last season, the Sherwood Park, Alb. native played in 38 games, finishing with a career-best 17 points, as he tallied a goal and added 16 helpers. He helped anchor a Falcon blue-line that upped its' point by 20 points in 2007-08, as the BG defensive core finished the season with 65 total points.

In 2006-07 as a sophomore, Maxwell was one of just three Falcons to play in all 38 games, as he finished eighth on the team in scoring with 12 points (0g, 12a). His 12 assists were the second-best total on the team and tops among all BG defensemen.

Page, who is also serving as a captain for the first time in his Falcon career, enters the new season following a 2007-08 season that saw him continue to become one of the top defensive players in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. After being named an Honorable Mention All-CCHA Rookie Team honoree in 2006-07, the Wixom, Mich. native was named a candidate for the CCHA's Best Defensive Defensemen Award last season, as he played a big part in shutting down the opposition's top lines game after game. He dressed in 35 games and finished the year with 23 games where he recorded even or plus rating, while also blocking 25 recorded shots.

A two-time Jim Ruehl Award winner for being BGSU's Best Defensive Player, Page was also named to the CCHA's Scholar-Athlete Team in 2007-08, as he has a cumulative GPA well over 3.5 in sports management. He has five career-points in his two seasons with the Falcons, as he recorded five assists in his rookie season.

The two captains will be looking to guide a Falcon hockey team that finished seventh in the final CCHA standings last season, as they hosted their second home playoff series in the last four years. BG won 18 games in 2007-08 - the most by any Falcon team in the last 13 years and the most since the 1995-96 team that won 26. BG also advanced to the second round of the CCHA playoffs or the first time since 2001 with its' first round series victory over Lake Superior State.

Maxwell and Page will both start their captaining duties on Saturday, October 4th when the Falcons host Wilfred Laurier in an exhibition contest at the BGSU Ice Arena. Face-off between the Falcons and the Golden Hawks is set for 12 p.m.
