It's Sandy Denny
It's Sandy Denny Saga EROS 8153 (LP, UK, 1970) |
While this album is called Sandy Danny on the record sleeve and spine, the name on the record label is It's Sandy Denny.
The album was supposed to be a compilation of the songs with Sandy Denny singing lead vocals from the sessions for Alex Campbell and His Friends and Sandy and Johnny. However, 3:10 to Yuma, Pretty Polly, Milk and Honey, The Last Thing on My Mind, and Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor are alternate versions published here for the first time (and later in 2005 on the CD Where the Time Goes).

Sandy Denny Nova 6.22968 (LP, Germany, 1977) |
From the track list one might guess that this German compilation is the same as the Saga compilation from 1970, It's Sandy Denny. However, this one has the original recordings from Alex Campbell and His Friends and Sandy and Johnny.

Again, this ia a reissue of Sandy's solo vocal tracks from Alex Campbell and His Friends and Sandy and Johnny, but unfortunately, differing from the previous two compilations, this one has replaced Sandy's version of Been on the Road So Long with Alex Campbell's where Sandy is singing backing vocals only. However, a new track is My Ramblin' Boy. The 1991 Mooncrest CD is a direct copy of the original LPs including pops and crackles.
The same album has been reissued one more time in 2003 with the title Heritage, though the tracks were not taken directly from the LPs but from (the master?) tapes.

Where the Time Goes Castle Music CMRCD1181 (CD, UK, October 2005) |

Finally, this CD is a comprehensive reissue of all of Saga's Sandy Denny album tracks including the alternative recordings on It's Sandy Denny. Thrown in for a good measure are two tracks from Sandy Denny's recordings with The Strawbs.
The most informative liner notes were written by Clinton Heylin. In fact, as I only got a copy of the Saga LP It's Sandy Denny after the release of this CD, I didn't know that the LP held alternate recordings to the ones published in 1967. So, thank you Clinton, for setting this straight!
