Bridgestone is to use special reflective markings on its tyres at Formula 1's first night race at Singapore next weekend - but does not believe any major changes are required for racing in the cool evening conditions.
The wet stripes which differentiate between the soft and hard dry tyres, and intermediate and full wet rubber in inclement conditions, will be made reflective so that they will still show up effectively under the floodlights at the Marina Bay circuit.
With an all-new circuit based largely on the city's streets, and with rain forecast, Singapore is set to be one of Bridgestone's biggest challenges of the season.
But the Japanese company is confident that racing at night for the first time in F1's history will be no problem, despite the change in temperatures.
"We have looked at many different aspects regarding a race taking place at night and we have no specific concerns," said the company's motorsport boss Hirohide Hamashima.
"The temperatures will be cooler than during the day and there will be no heat generated from the sun's radiation, but we predict an ambient and track temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius, which is warmer than some tracks we visit during the day.
"Ultimately, the way the tyre works at night will be the same as it works during the day."
