Chiz Escudero campaigns in cyberspace
spacer

Senatorial candidate Francis "Chiz" Escudero is taking advantage of the wonders of information technology in his campaign.

Using the Internet as venue, Escudero recently conferred with members of the press, including those outside Metro Manila, and overseas Filipino workers in the United States, Hong Kong and the Middle East.

In the online press conference, dubbed Chat with Chiz, the congressman from the First District of Sorsogon fielded questions relevant to his candidacy.

Escudero, a candidate under the Genuine Opposition (GO), was the first and so far the only senatorial aspirant to explain his platform of government in cyberspace.

"The Internet is the best way to reach people outside the country and share ideas with them in real time. Through this technology, I hope to hear what is on their minds," he said. "I chose to launch my senatorial bid online to show the new, innovative, youthful, and ingenious way of campaigning given our meager resources."

The program, held in cooperation with Yehey.com’s Online Brewing Point, complements the launching of Escudero’s official website, www.chizescudero.com.

His website, which registered 46,340 hits on the first week, contains his platform of government, his accomplishments as a congressman for nine consecutive years, and other information about him.

The www.chizescudero.com serves as venue for young people to express support to Escudero. The 1,378 registered members of Team Chiz electronic forum, which the website hosts, have already posted around 1,184 articles as of today, just a week after the e-forum was launched.

Those who want to volunteer for Escudero’s campaign can do so through the Say Chiz Registration link on his website. At least some 5,500 volunteers have already registered at Say Chiz.

Most want to help distribute campaign posters and other election paraphernalia, volunteer as area coordinators. Others simply hope to use the Internet to help the senatorial aspirant win in the election.

In his Friendster account which has only been up last month, Escudero already exceeded the quota of friends at more than 1,000 who use this popular website to reach and persuade people to support his campaign. His friendster blog contains his thoughts on issues facing the country today.

Pictures, wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones, posters and his TV ad may be downloaded from www.chizescudero.com and www.friendster.com/chizescudero.
