March 2008

This month I went along to visit Customs and Excise local management in Greenock to hear what they had to say about the possibility of moving of some jobs to Glasgow. No final decision has yet been taken. I also went to see pupils in St Ninian’s Primary to talk to them about my work as an MP and, later in the month, I met with Financial Fitness to see how I could help with their funding. Additionally, I saw the new Principle of the James Watt College to discuss how the college could support the area’s regeneration by providing more training for apprentices. There was also another meeting of the Fairtrade Committee.

During March I held surgeries in the Wemyss Bay Community Centre, Inverkip Church Hall, Fancy Farm Community Hall and Boglestone Community Centre

Scotland Office
Scotland Office duties this month saw meetings with several UK Ministers including Mike O’Brien and Andy Burnham. During Scottish Questions I answered for the Government on energy and employment. I also met with numerous groups including the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Gaelic Media Services, ASH, Freight Transport Association, CBI and British Aerospace. Additionally, I spoke at the Scottish Renewables Conference, attended the Offshore Technology Achievement Awards, and opened the Fairfield energy office in Aberdeen.
