TBILISI. July 19 (Interfax) - The Georgian television company Rustavi-2 has reported that Russia sent a motorized rifle battalion, including 14 armored personnel carriers and anti-aircraft systems, to the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone on Saturday.

The battalion has been deployed in the lower part of the Kodori Gorge and Russian servicemen have started to dig trenches, according to Rustavi-2.

The TV company had reported earlier that units of Russian paratroopers had been brought into Abkhazia.

Interfax could not immediately obtain comments on this information from the Russian military command or Abkhaz authorities. Tbilisi has not made official comments on the matter either.

Russian military had earlier repeatedly denied similar allegations by Georgian politicians and media outlets.
