  • Kenner (2)

Kenner Products was a toy company founded in 1947 by Albert, Phillip, and Joseph Steiner, in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, and was named after the street where the original corporate offices were located. Kenner introduced the Give-a-Show projector in 1959, the Easy-Bake Oven in 1963, and the Spirograph drawing toy in 1966. It was a pioneer in the use of television as a medium for advertising toys across the United States, beginning in 1958.

The company was purchased by General Mills in 1967.

In 1970, General Mills merged its Rainbow Crafts division into Kenner Products, bringing Play-Doh into the Kenner product line.

Kenner Products obtained the rights to produce action figures and playsets for the Star Wars trilogy from 1977-1984. After Kenner acquired the license to produce Star Wars toys when the Mego Corporation rejected it in 1976, Kenner popularized the 3.75 inch action figure that became an industry standard and continues to dominate the action figure toy market. They also produced toys related to the popular 70s TV series The Six Million Dollar Man.

One of Kenner's most highly acclaimed lines was the Super Powers Collection. These action figures were based on the famed superheroes of DC Comics. What made the line so successful was that the characters were modeled almost exactly from the style guide of the company; and also, each character performed some "action." For example, if you squeezed Superman's legs, he would throw a punch.

This set was produced from 1984 to 1986. In 1990, the company unleashed the Dark Knight Collection which was the first of their many lines based on the Batman character. This initial set was created to capitalize on the phenomenal success of the cinematic version of the character.

In 1985, General Mills spun off its Kenner and Parker toy divisions to form Kenner Parker Toys, Inc. Kenner Parker was acquired by Tonka in 1987. Under Tonka management, Kenner Products was reconstituted as a division.

Tonka (including Kenner) was purchased by the toy company Hasbro in mid-1991. Hasbro closed the Cincinnati offices of Kenner in 2000, and Kenner's product lines were merged into Hasbro's. (wikipedia)

New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are frequently introduced by Brandstätter. Some of these, such as promotional products, are only produced in limited quantities. For example, Playmobil introduced limited edition sets with the logos of seven different airlines, sold only aboard flights and in duty-free shops. These practices have given rise to a sizable community of collectors. Collector activities extend beyond collecting and free-form play with Playmobil and include customization, miniature wargaming, and creation of photo stories and stop motion films. STIKFAS™ has come a long way. From a brief concept inside founder Ban Y J's sketch book, it is now the brand that has defined a new genre in toys with the concept of Action Figure Kits. The debut of STIKFAS™ was through a successful co-branding in 2001 with the world's leading computer game publisher, Electronic Arts. This collaboration provided a proof of concept and Stikfas Pte. Ltd. was incorporated in August. Work begun on the first mass production model of the STIKFAS™ Action Figure Kit, which was made available to public through online sales at www.stikfas.com in December 2001. From 2002 to 2004, STIKFAS™ was licensed to international toy giant Hasbro® Inc and this move saw a significant increase in its product range, distribution network as well as market recognition. During this period, STIKFAS™ has been the awarded the title of "Best Original Concept" in "Best of the Best 2002" by Wizard's Toyfare magazine, the industry's leading publication. That year, STIKFAS™ came in second for "Most Fun and Innovative Toy" in a consumer's poll by Toyshop Magazine, a revoluntionary achievement for a simple plastic toy to earn its place in a category dominated by high tech electronic toy items. STIKFAS™ debut in Japan in the fall of 2003 under the distribution of Tomy Direct Co., Ltd. • Takara (60)

Takara-TomyTakara Co., Ltd. is a Japanese toy company founded in 1955. Takara merged with another prominent Japanese toy company, Tomy Co., Ltd., on March 1, 2006 with the new company making the unusual decision to adopt two different legal corporate names. In English the legal name of the company is simply TOMY Co. Ltd. while in Japanese the legal company name is the combined name, K.K. Takara-Tomy (株式会社タカラトミー ) TYO: 7867 .

Takara is perhaps best known as the company behind the transforming toys which became Transformers, after Hasbro proposed combining Takara's Diaclone and Micro Change toylines in 1984 to create the Transformers. Takara is also the originator of the hit toy lines Battle Beasts (BeastFormers in Japan), e-kara karaoke microphone, Battle B-Daman and Beyblade, all of which Hasbro also sold or distributed internationally. Takara continues to sell Microman, the basis for the hit toy line Micronauts, sold internationally by now defunct Mego beginning in the 70s and Choro-Q a mini pullback car, which has been running since 1978 and is marketed outside Japan as Penny Racer.

Both Takara and pre-merger Tomy have had strong relationships with Hasbro, which has distributed Takara's hit products such as Transformers, Beyblade, e-Kara and Battle B-Daman and Tomy's Zoids brands internationally. Although the merged company has stated that the Transformers business with Hasbro and the OEM business in general is not as profitable as direct distribution, the relationship with Hasbro on Transformers is low risk since Hasbro assumes the inventory risk internationally. This long-term relationship will certainly continue, as both Takara and Tomy have also long held the licenses to localize and distribute many Hasbro products in Japan, including The Game of Life, Blythe dolls, and Magic: The Gathering and Duel Masters trading card games by Takara and Monopoly, Furby, Super Soaker and Play-Doh by Tomy. Hasbro has also previously distributed Tomy's Pokemon toys in the US, though eventually started selling their own versions.(wikipedia)

This page will list both Takara toys and Hasbro toys that have been jointly produced by Takara.

  • Victora (4)

Victora (ビクトラー) was a sub-company of the famous toy company Popy. Popy wanted to move into the cheap toy market, but they didn’t want to associate their brand name with crappy toys. Thus the sub company called Victora  (or sometimes Victorer) was born.

Victora toys could mostly be found at train station kiosks, and near cash registers at stores. They were an affordable quick fix for kids, and for parents they wouldn’t break the bank. They were nothing compared to their parent company, Popy, but for what they are worth they are pretty cool.
