Mrs. Rakestraw had two sons in TN John 1822 and James 1824 then there was a parting of some sort. In 1909 when James estate was being settled decentants of Riddle showed up as half-sisters to claim part of the estate. Nee Jane Riddle is the name I have at present of the half-sister. Apparently he had a sister Sally, and a brother, only known as a 'man of the cloth', or minister(?). There are no other known family references to Joseph. Popular theory is outlaw justice prevailed, as ggrandma was only 19 at the time. I have no idea which county he was from and have had no luck searching through other databases.
