To LIEUTENANT COLONEL
HENRY BEEKMAN LIVINGSTON Head Quarters in New York, June 26, 1776.

    Sir: Immediately upon Receipt of this Order ***24 You will be furnished with the Sum of twenty pounds to enable you to purchase intrenching Tools, as none can be spared from the Quarter Master General's Store, and you will cause such works to be thrown up as you shall judge necessary for your Security. By applying to the Commissary of Ordnance Stores you will receive two Barrels of Powder for the use of the Men under your Command. 25
