Film/Animation. M.F.A., Yale University, School of the Arts ('70); B.F.A., Harvard University, Magna Cum Laude ('68). A film and video maker whose montage pushes the envelope of form and content with sensitivity, smarts, and passion. Recent projects: Eden, If, Cake & Steak, a film trilogy on suburbia, in progress; Surface Noise, a 16mm film ('00); "Catch Me If You Can," a script for ITVS "American Stories," and Below the New: A Russian Chronicle, video ('99). Solo/group exhibitions: "The American Century, 1950-2000," the Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum, NY ('97, '89); the New York Film Festival & Video Side Bar ('93, '89); the London Film Festival; Rotterdam Film Festival; and Torino Film Festival in Italy. Collections include: Museum of Modern Art, NY, and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. Fellowships: ITVS "American Narratives" Screenwriting Grant, NYFA, NYSCA, NEA Interarts, the Jerome Foundations, the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundations, the Massachusetts Arts Council, and Creative Artists Public Service. Teaching: New York University School of the Arts, Massachusetts College of Art, the Art Institute of San Francisco, Hampshire College, and Sarah Lawrence College. She is also the author of several books of poetry.
