Palin's personal e-mail was reportedly hacked Wednesday.
Palin's personal e-mail was reportedly hacked Wednesday.

(CNN) — John McCain's campaign said Wednesday it has contacted "appropriate authorities" over a report that Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's personal e-mail had been hacked.

"This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law," campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement. "The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."

The statement came hours after a user on the Web site WikiLeaks said he had gained access to Palin's Yahoo e-mail account and gained access.  Screenshots of the e-mail messages and photos of the Alaska governor's family were published on that Web site and later on gossip Web site gawker.com.

FBI Spokesman Eric Gonzalez in Anchorage, Alaska confirms to CNN an investigation is underway.

"We are aware of the allegations and we are coordinating with Secret Service as far as the allegation that someone has hacked into Governor Palin's personal e-mail account," he said. "We are going to be working a joint investigation with Secret Service on this."

Brian Hale, an FBI spokesman in Washington, also confirms the FBI has been contacted about the incident. Two federal law enforcement sources say the FBI and Secret Service would have concurrent jurisdiction normally on a matter such as this, but it remains to be seen if the Secret Service will take the lead on the investigation because Palin is a protectee.

The e-mails shown include one from July between Palin and Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell and another dated earlier this week from Amy McCorkell, the woman Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.

Palin has faced criticism for using a private e-mail account to conduct some state business — prompting critics to allege she was attempting to hide information from the public record.

SP…stands for secret person. Is it just me or is it that everytime I turn around there is more drama linked to this women. Everything is always so secretive with her. I am so tired of hearing all the drama over Sarah Palin…I think she has now won over my teenage daughters dramatic life. Why in the world do we want somebody like this in a major position in our nation? Or….is this just…MORE OF THE SAME? Give her a rest and she will fade away just like the famous "Lipstick" does!!!

Jason58103   September 17th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I wonder how many other Governors use a private e-mail account to conduct some state business in secret, and cc hundreds of emails to there spouse on executive business?!? open gov't my ars.

Joshua College Station Texas   September 17th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

Probably a plant from the McCain campaign.

the other jd   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Um–Dennis, Obama is smart enough not to put private matters on a yahoo email.

Wayne   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Notice the McCain campaign trying to NOT talk about the economy, NOT talk about the last 8 years, not talk about how the Bush Administration is at the very least partly responsible for this mess.

We are witnessing the decline of America. Hold on.

Foreign observer   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Probably it´s been McCain in trying to use a computer !

Todd   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

I’m an Obama supporter and I think whoever hacked Palin’s email account should be held accountable to the law. This type of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated by either party. I also think Palin should cooperate with the troopergate investigation too - it works both ways, sister.

Liz   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

She is discussing confidential state business on YAHOO!?!?!!?! Is she stupid? Oh wait, we already know she is stupid.

Mandy   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

why is she hiding the emals anyway. if she is not guilty, then, she should make them available to the investigative authorities. the GOP are the ones who are blocking the law.
who ever hacked the emails, that person is doing the public a favor.

.

Ken   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Stephen says: "All persons found to be in violation of the law should be prosecuted. and sent to prision." Nice to hear from another [R] law-and-order hypocrite.

Now I would have agreed with you, except too many at the top of this [R] political machine have not gone to prison for their violations of the law over MUCH more egregious matters.

So by all means, let's put this hacker of vaccuous personal e-mail in jail, while [R] traitors who outed CIA employees get off scott free. Now there's change we can believe in….NOT!!!!!

And by the way Mr. stick-to-the-law and supporter of the party-of-personal-responsibility, you will fully expect and support negagtive consequences to Sarah if she is found to be guilty of the charges she's under investigation for, RIGHT?????!!!!!!! HA, right…..just another bleeding-heart {R]ightwinger!

Maggie   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Like this wasn't a set up by McCain to ensure she stays in the news…DUH

Jay from MT   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Now there is proof why the deaf, and blind mice republicans are so thrilled about palin. She knows how to use email, and her boss doesn't…LOL. This is to mellow-dramatic…ROTFLMAO.

Kellie   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Of course this is all Obama's fault. Give me a break. McCain's probably put this story out just to drum up sympathy for her.

Mike, Syracuse NY   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Amazing. Palin's email gets hacked and Obama supporters blame McCain, or say it was made up. You people have totally lost any sanity you may have ever had. Too bad a mental competency test isn't required to be able to vote. McCain would win every state! You see lies and conspiracy everywhere, except in the Obama camp which of course is as pure as snow. Get a grip. Then go out and get a candidate who isn't a racist, sexist, and socialist.

Chuck-Washington State   September 17th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

If she's dumb enough to use a yahoo account for official business, she should accept the consequences.

Wathcful Enthusiast........   September 17th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Why is it that things keep on showing up about this woman? Who wants to know what she has in her mails?

I truly hope that it is not the latest ploy to make the Democrats to look like hackers so that the issues on hand will not be addressed and also so that people will have sympathy for Palin and forget the fact that she has to be screened……….

The fight is becoming fiercer …..

Robert Deming   September 17th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

The country can't afford to let Perky Palin into office. We can't afford the time and money it will take to toss her out. The country has enough trouble.

We need to take care of the business of the country and get back on track.

This woman is much worse then Nixon. She apparently didn't learn from Watergate or didn't take the time to read a little history while she was playing beauty queen!!

Electing this woman to office is shooting all Americans in the face! She needs to stand in front of the current VP.

KB   September 17th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

My first thought…the McCain campaign has done this. Sad, but truly, I don't trust them at all. Yet another distraction to rile up their core and cry foul again. Is it me, or is there just too much drama from these people????

Seriously - manufactured drama by McCain - no surprise and let's not talk about his inability to deal with the economy, his incompetence to deal with any issue unless you are an oil company looking for a tax break!

OBAMA/BIDEN '08

gpenn FL   September 17th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

I don't much care for how they got the information, but it is pretty revealing. I also find it rather amusing. They asked everyone to delete the e-mails if they had them. Cats out of the bag now.

Nobama   September 17th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

The best thing to do is report blogs/web sites that post these personal emails. Report them to the Secret Service and DOJ.

Then send them letters while they rot in prison.

Mark   September 17th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

How stupid are you people that are saying this is a lie coming from the McCain / Palin camp? The FBI confirmed they are checking into it.
The FBI would not be checking into anything if it was a lie.

I am tired of hearing about supposed skeletons in Palins closet. If you want to look into closets, maybe you had better start by looking at each and every politician in Washington who has been there for a while. You can start with Ted Kennedy all the way to Bill Clinton. Oh wait, the only thing Bill has in his closet is another woman other than Hillary.

Someone hit the nail on the head, if Obamas personal email had been breached, you would have the NAACP screaming and yelling along with every civil rights organization in America saying it is wrong.
God forbid someone tap into Queen Hillarys personal email.
If Palin has to reveal her perosnal emails,,, so should EVERY candidate. Lets see all his personal conversations with Reverand White and his other friends.

I am also tired of hearing from people that McCain is a lier. PROVE it.
If he is lying,,, prove it. Gice uas details to what he is lying about with concrete evidence to support it.

victor,nj   September 17th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Lets observe this new claim by the McCain campaign. Obama is a destroying McCain with the economic crisis, the lack of cooperation in the investigation of trooper gate, McCain's economic is fundamentally strong quote, and with the convention bump evaporated; McCain now wants to claim someone hacked in to emails, trying to switch attention with a made up allegation. Call me paroniod, but after the outrage over lipstick, and continously lies from the McCain camp, I wont put it past them.

Just when you think that the Democrats can't go any lower, they break the law and invaid someone's privacy. How desperate. So much attention is being paid into the "trooper gate," soon those in the media who have an axe to grind will have egg on their faces.

Perhaps you should start scrutinizing the number 1 man on the Democratic ticket instead of trying so hard for nothing with Gov. Palin.

You might as well get used to her, she is here to stay. America likes and trust her.

The absolute sleaziest thing I've ever seen in a presidential campaign. And the fact that the Obama supporters are not disturbed by this, which is the same as opening someone's mailbox, taking out their mail, opening it, and publishing it online, speaks volumes and tells me just exactly the SORT of people who support Obama.

Which is why today I registered as a Republican. I had resigned as a Democrat back in June and registered as an independent, but I decided today that's not going far enough.

The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them.

I liked this word "destroy". Destroy evidence that she is possibly lying about the "Troopergate". Whoever has this evidence should turn it over to the authorities as well as the State Legislature of Alaska so they can read it. No questions asked. She shouldn't be conducting state business on a personal yahoo account.

Nancy Ordway   September 17th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Palin should not have a personal email account that can be used by any one who works or is elected to a government office. she has no private life once she took office and now runnining for VP. She must open all emails and phone records for the people to see and hear.
As an Alaskan in my opinion Palin should drop out of vthe race.
She is hurting McCain.

The alleged Trooper Gate is a state matter to be investgated by the State of Alaska.
Internet Crimes are fall under another jurisdiction. Of course when Obama's private life came into play, everyone was outraged and he got his way.
There is no question about it. The liberal Media have their candidate for president and nothing will stop them from making sure he gets it. Short of Killing someone I hope.
I don't expect to see my post on CNN because of the 36 posts so far, only a few have sided with Palin while the rest are spouting Democratic talking points.

andy   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

This is the type of politics Obama's camp like to run. Let their people do what they want and hide behind them. Obama is as low as his politics… Lets read Hussein Obama's email.

Faiz   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I know what is she going to say in her next speech. They will now go to Silicon Valley and shakeup Yahoo!

Douglas, Los Angeles California   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

The republicans probably hacked it themselves. I just cannot trust them anymore. The lie's and deciet continues.

Charlie   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Palin is hiding someting! Probably used private E-Mail accounts for business to mislead the investigators.

Kimetics   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Well, I would think that if they want an investigation then they should tie both investigation together. I mean why have just one investigation based on which one is easier to pull off.

Troopergate/Email investigation…. What's there to hide.

Ian   September 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

In the words of my 15-year-old neighbor:

"Dude, she is a total drama queen."

Pam   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

The fact that this woman used personal email account to conduct state business proves she is a MORON and is UNFIT to represent the people at ANY level of GOVERNMENT.

It is time to kick her butt to the curb!!

enough   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

I seriously doubt "anoymous" is a democrat. I think this is a republican ploy to change the topic off of the economy and create another manufactered outrage.

Republicans just don't get it

Sam   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

I pray it's true she's been hacked.
It might make Palin think twice about lying about her emails if she thinks someone else has copies. It probably won't happen that way… they'll lie about everything anyway… but…. here's to wishful thinking.

Nicole   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

The media is trying SOOOOOO so hard to find something substantial against this woman. Why so desparate? If she's such a terrible person, no doubt it'll surface in the next few weeks just by her speaking and debating.

ontheqt   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

We're finally getting around to talking about the issues…then we get sidetracked into emails and nonsense about who is invited to what. Let's get back on the issues here folks.

Jessica   September 17th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

I really hope that those that respond to these ads represent a true cross section of the electorate. They say one of two things…. that the majority of people see through the ill-fated twisted Republican machine, …or the Obama electorate actually reads the news, and is more informed on the issues and the reality of this campaign….

Probably a bit of both.

Obama/Biden "08

Blaming Obama and his supporters   September 17th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Wonder how many comments will blame Obama and his supporters for this e-mail hack. I've seen 3 already. GET INFORMED PEOPLE, they way you accuse makes me think you got some inside information.

It could be a Republican because like the Democrats they don't know who the HELL she is either!

Ken in NM   September 17th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

I am going to guess that it was planned by the McCain team to give her justification to delete that email account which may have included incriminating emails related to her troopergate issues.

KJL   September 17th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

This foolish woman could end up as Commander in Chief of the US military, yet she doesn't follow basic procedures to keep her email private, and uses Yahoo accounts for government business? Frightening.

Darryl   September 17th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Yes, Gov. Palin say thank you but not thank just give me the money.

Obama said we muust pay our bills.

The Good Old Boys John McCain and George Bush says give more money to big business and don't charge them taxes.

We can't afford another Bush Presidency…

Two federal law enforcement sources say the FBI and Secret Service would have concurrent jurisdiction normally on a matter such as this, (but it remains to be seen if the But they Secret Service will) take the lead on the investigation because Palin is a protectee."

Does anyone ever proof read this crap?

Kathy in North Carolina   September 17th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

If she is so great………Why doesn't John McCain just step aside and let her be the Pres. and he the VP? I love all the Obama-drots who can't think of anything original to say, so re-use Republican criticisms of Obama against Palin, as in she is a celebrity.

Reminds me of first grade, playing the "I know you are but what am I" game. Those democrats sure are ingenious.

Amy-Me again. I am like so totally bored. They won't let me talk to anyone. I MEAN ANYONE! I went and chatted with some creep named Charley who was busting my chops over some entitlement program. Hello?!?!?! I watch Big Brother and Idol. Have you ever seen this entitlement program? Gotta go… I have to go wave and chant "Drill baby, Drill"…Todd gets all grabby after I have to do that. SO wish I could send him home, but someone has to prop up Grandpa.

change   September 17th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Wow! This is getting out of hand. There is no evidence of state business in those emails.

I hope that anyone caught invading her email account will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. AND THIS INCLUDES ANYONE IN THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN!!

This is absolutely disgusting! Just because you cannot compete with someone on the basis of ideas, you try to attack them, their children, and their family.

Why in the hell is there no scrutiny towards Obama/Biden? It is Biden's son who is a lobbyist. I want him investigated by the media.

I believe the website 'Gawker' is the one who leaked these emails. The site reads like the Daily Kos.

I wonder if we will see this quote soon: Obama "That is not the Gawker I knew."

Don't you find it amazing how the McCain camp is keeping Palin in the news. Not by issues, but by accusations, etc. Sorry to hear her mail was hacked, but I don't care. I want to hear about the economy and solution sto the current problems that face this Nation.

Is McCain so weak that he can't address issues, but needs to hide behind this young redneck woman's skirt?

hmmm

Looks to me that the liberals here are far more mean natured than conservatives. I thought the people of the democratic party were supposed to be the good guys. Stop letting me down with all of negativity and go positive. This doesn’t sound like the America Obama was promising in his convention speech. I need real hope that the democratic party can get things done and not continue with the negativity of the last 8 years. GObama!

Sandy - PA   September 17th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

I wouldn't put it past the Republicans to pull this kind of stunt themselves and try to blame it on Obama or Obama supporters. Smells of Rove tactics at their best.

Another Republican for Obama (this year)   September 17th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Give me a break. The people that hacked her account certainly wouldn't do it from inside the US. They're doing it from a place where the US has no jurisdiction, so despite the Secret Service BS - they'll never be caught.

That's what she gets for doing state business on a public email system.

Joyce, nj   September 17th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Is she aware of the patriot act? Or is this something that had escaped her pretty much like the Bush doctrine.

It's really pretty pathetic how the GOP is trying to sound like the everyone's being unfair to them.

BTW, why use Yahoo account on Government issues? Silly.

As an IT person myself, I can't begin to tell you how stupid it is to use public email for official business.

If you are using yahoo for official use, you are beyond stupid. Corporate and Government email is ALWAYS used to conduct official business both for audit reasons. It is WELL KNOWN that yahoo accounts can be forged and (OH MY GOD) hacked.

More reason not to vote for Sarah Palin. Any person with "Executive Experience" would know that you need accountability.

Is anyone in the Obama camp VERY nervous right now?
I doubt anyone at Sen Obama camp had anything to do with this. If any one did this could be the end of Obamas chance for the white house. I doubt there is a connection.

FAILIN' PALIN   September 17th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Does this mean she would use a Yahoo account for highly confidential material from the CIA?

Very poor judgment on Palin's part.

Tracey   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

This is why you shouldn't use private email accounts for official government business. Sure, it's easier to hide illegal activity, but it isn't as secure as official government email.

NYCVOTER   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

She did not violate any laws. The guy tazed a 10 year old and drank on the job and the commissioner refused to respond to her e-mails to take action. There were lawyers all over yesterday discussing that this case is ridiculous and that Palin has nothing to worry about. There is no need to go to testify as if she has committed a crime and let all the liberals have a field day with absolutely nothing like you guys do time and time again. I really wish there was an article on the money Fannie and Friddie funneled into the Obama Campaign and prior to that his personal wallet considering he is #2 on the list of money acceptance from the the 2. No but just go on liberals continue deflecting by villianizing a woman who tried her hardest to get a Trooper off the job so he couldn't harm anymore children or enforce the law drunk. Imean after all he is still a trooper at the moment. I guess thats the way liberals like there law enforcemeny abusive and drunk.

McCain '08   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Brian   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Completely unrelated, but check out this "conversation" I just had with a republican friend of mine:

Republican: How can you be so apathetic about immigration? Don't you feel we need to tighten border security and regulations on illegal aliens?

Me: What, again, were the regulations put on the "illegal aliens" that founded this country that we now live in?

Republican: Oh, so what? We should just let everyone in? Then this place would way overpopulated!

Me: I agree, overpopulation is a big problem — that's why I support abortion rights.

Republican: Go to hell!

Me: Sorry, I can't go to a fictitious place.

He walked away at that point.

David   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Hacking into anyone's personal email is illegal and should be so. However, if Palin was indeed using a private email system to conduct state's business, that is also highly unethical. Emails from our leaders are communications owned by the American public, and that raises serious questions about her judgement.

Robert, Houston, TX   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

More phony outrage? This is coming from the party that supports domestic spying. What's their so often said line: "Why should you worry…unless you have something to hide?" I just ove the hypocrisy of their outrage!

Regret the Palin Pick   September 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

She is a gift that keeps on giving!!!

John F. Leech   September 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Is Sarah Palin the Illegitimate daughter of Dick Cheney or what?

Otherwise, she's a quick learner.

Delay, delay, delay - Deny, deny, deny - Distract, distract, distract. She is becoming an accomplished politician, and exactly what we don't want in the White House.

She has nothing to hide. She'll cooperate with the investigation.

I THINK NOT.

Chris   September 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Whoever is responsible has done their civic duty. Palin conducted public business outside of proper public channels. As for personal information that is a casualty of good citizens exposing bad , that's the risk you take when you become a public figure. You surrender most of your privacy. This is known, and should be embraced by those who really believe they can do good for the whole of America. It's the sacrifice you make to lead the people.

If Palin wants to prove she has the mental and emotional strength to pursue governance then she'll deal with this like an adult and refrain from such knee-jerk reactions like "you've invaded my privacy", and apologize to her constituents for not handling potentially sensitive data correctly.

Independent NV Voter   September 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

That was very poor judgement on her part. Just like it was poor judgement of McCain to nominate her as his running mate. I feel so much better about them in the White House. NOT!

They'd better not try to insinuate or infer that the Obama camp had anything to do with it. Anyone with sufficient knowledge of "the e-mail" can hack into anything they're able.
However, if Sarah has nothing to hide, why won't she cooperate as she promised?
Sounds like her staff is also following the example set by the BUSH administration, in flaunting the processes set forth by Alaska's state government. Well, "Governor," way to follow in the footsteps of the most corrupt "presidential" administration since Nixon's!

I am like so the princess of Alaska, and what I say goes, right? If I say you are fired, you are like so totally fired. I mean, like I should have to answer to anyone! Gotta go! Todd is trying to read over my shoulder.

McSameMcCain on myspace   September 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Well Gov Palin, if you weren't using your Yahoo account to hide official business from the public, you wouldn't have gotten hacked would you?

Guess what deary, just because you cancelled the accounts today doesn't mean that the emails aren't on yahoo's servers and subject to being turned over to authorities in their investigation of your Richard Nixon style of management. Watergate/Troopergate….this time the comparison fits!

Susan   September 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Blame this on McCain- oh but Obama claims Old John can't e-mail or use a computer.

But we all KNOW the Obamabots live at their keyboards and cell phones.

Guess we know who is subverting the democratic process- ONCE AGAIN.

How can either Clinton support this tyrant, Obama the great.

Sorry but you have been hacked!

Oh we all know that McCain didn't hack it! LoL

DV   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I'm no Palin fan, but hacking e-mail accounts is lame! You shoudl subpoena the relevant messages - otoh, then she'd probably just refuse to cooperate, which is, apparently, one of her miraculous powers.

Katrina   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Waiting for McCain to claim that Obama did it with the Blackberry he invented…

Billy   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

This is why is it against the law to conduct government business on a personal e-mail account.

What if she was VP and was discussing national security issues?

Palin has broken the law and needs to be held accountable!

yonimal   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

May be now we will get to know the contents finally as she was trying to cover up all those emails. We all should be ashamed to have someone like this on a VP ticket

Robert   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I am opposed to Palin as incredibly undeserving of our votes, but I agree that the hacker who did this should be brought to justice.

Not justifying this person's action, but…
It is important to note that she has had her entire staff communicate by personal emails to subpoena-proof her administration. This is a little troubling from someone who claims to be all about open govt and accountability - something Palin has gone to great lengths to avoid.

A Bridge to Nowhere   September 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Someone snooping into a Republican's email? How ironic.

Looks like the use of private email to conduct government business and avoid public inquiry backfired.

I'd be interested in whats in those emails and why its that important to be kept secret. They'll probably be all over the web by tonight anyway.

But if fizzle dizzle Obama shows up at the debates then we lose the race.
I hope thay pull the 2 min ad. It made me mad. I wanted to kick the cat. Obama being the cat.
That is not what Obama should be aiming for. We want red meat from a hunter and he gave us a bowl of milk toast today.
McCain looked like a dork in his ad today too, though. He tried too hard to act tough. 'I've faced tougher guys then this". Yeah, and got shot down and tossed in a cage and raped by men for 5 years, top gun.
McCain over did it… but Obama way, way under did it and that is worse.

The greater concern with Palin's use of personal email accounts to conduct state business is security.

Palin's desire to circumvent freedom of information laws compromised state security.

Did it not occur to her the best way to control a paper trail is to simply not write down any thing she wanted to keep confidential? My goodness, how stupid can one be?

The more we learn about Palin, the more apparent her inexperience, poor judgment, and outright reckless stupidity.

What about an investigation about conducting official state business using private non-state email accounts to circumvent freedom of information laws? Hmm… I guess Palin took a play out of George W. Bush's playbook… but of course, we're not going to hear anything about that from the McCain campaign…

Although this does confirm one thing… that it's actually Palin's email account. Otherwise I would have expected the McCain campaign to hit back with something along the lines of all the email stuff being shown to be fake.

This is only the BEGINNING. Beware. I'm sure there are closets full of the stuff that scandals are made of somewhere in the near vacinity of Palin! At least now we have a guarantee that will NEVER happen! Who in their right mind would vote for a Man who made such a ridiculously poor choice for the Next In Line to the Button! Bobby   September 17th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Probably one of the Obama people!

Destroy them!!   September 17th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

I hate that someone got access to her private account, that is a violation and should be punished by law enforcement. But look at the plea to "destroy them" how scared they must be that something incriminating might be there, huh! Kinda makes you wonder.

RJ   September 17th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Tryna divert attention from Troopergate, huh? It amazes me how these people believe we are stupid.

Michael   September 17th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Yep. Don't I vaguly remember the Nixon campaigns when republican operatives called the dirty tricks squad went around doing their fun little things and then claiming they were the results of democrats? Yep the next step will be to have Tucker voice outrage and claim without evidence it was those evil democrats who did this bad thing to poor Phalin. Sorry but good try though. Perhaps you could call for someone, snicker ,snicker, to denounce the hack job.

maura   September 17th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

OMg. She used her personal email? I guess the tanning bed scandal is going nowhere, eh?

If only those hackers could access Obama's university records, law school apps, legitimate birth cert., etc., as easily……….

b@b.com   September 17th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

More Lies from McBush Camp!

If he's lying this bad now…can you imagine him in the Whitehouse!!?

GOP can't win on the issues   September 17th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

They probably hacked the email themselves for the publicity. They will almost certainly attempt to tie this to the Obama campaign as a young Karl Rove did in a gambit he used in a Mayoral Election. Bugged the office of his own candidate, called in the cops and got it into the news cycle as the opposition's attempt to eavesdrop. Noone seemed to notice that the battery in the listening device was only rated to last 30 minutes. I view this as suspect as I do McCain's honor after all these repeated lies in his commercials. These people will do any, besides stick to the issues, to win this election.

Sammy   September 17th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

The conspiracy theorists out there will say it was a secret McCain attempt to affect any investigation that will use the email.. or possibly delay it. But right now I am waiting for Yahoo to comment. I expect they will say their safeguards prevent such a thing from happening.

Abby   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I think this is a set up, a diversion. The real emails are destroyed or unavailable and these are just innocent stand ins.

hurriCAIN PALIN   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

the people who do this type of stuff have no respect of privacy and

thats really perversive. they just want their 15mins of fame.

California Gold   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

There is an old warning about not putting anything into writing that you wouldn't want made public.

Frankly I'm more concerned about the DOD (Dept of Defense) breach when an employee took home a laptop with all of our sensitive data and then lost the laptop. Exposing innocent citizens to identity theft is far more important than Sarah Palin's sleazy e-mail.

Tina   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

If she was using private emails to discuss government business then she should be forced to turn over the emails. It looks like the people she was emailing were government employees.

This woman is so Bush-like it's scary!

Lynn:60 yr old Obama supporter   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I really can't believe anything this campaign says any more!! never a name, just a "report".

Brad   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Maybe it was Todd Palin. He insists on attending all of her private meetings and on recieving confidential Government Email.

Saad from NJ   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

oh no…. however wrong and illegal it is for anyone to hack into someone's email but I wonder why Gov. Palin even provided the opportunity for someone to do so. hummmm, WHY?

Jeff   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Here's some meaningful news…

NOW - The National Organization For Women has endorsed Obama/ Biden. Why isn't this top news on numerous media outlets - including CNN? I heard about this on NPR - National Public Radio. I encourage everyone to tune in to them and PBS for the best, most balanced and complete coverage of the presidential race…and for all news. It's still NEWS with them versus infotainment with the others. And in this time of crisis Americans need the best information and journalism to help people make the best decisions about our future.

WHITE MALE HOCKEY DAD Obama/ Biden '08

Don   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

This was an invasion of her privacy, it should not have happened. However, it does raise some serious questions about her. She talks a lot about transperancy and politicians being held accountable.

She hasn't disclosed her tax returns,
she uses personal e-mail for government buisness,
she refuses to answer questions (that aren't planted),
she won't allow her staffers to testify in a BI-artisan investigation into abuse of power issues,

not very transparent. . . lets hold her accountable

VDAL   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Privacy on a Yahoo account? you must be kidding.. besides why use a personal email account to transact business? What are these people trying to hide??

Sarah Bell   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

WASP! Women Against Sarah Palin!

David, Silver Spring, MD   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Well of course it's a terrible violation of privacy and law. And it also shows how irresponsible Gov. Palin was to use a commercial email service for her official government business. Before putting potentially sensitive data on a non-government controlled server, she should have taken steps to insure that the server was adequately secure. Apparently, she didn't.

Anyone who may have disclosed private information to the Gov. through her Yahoo account should think long and hard about whether the Gov. fulfilled her responsibility as a public servant to protect that information to the fullest extent possible.

Maybe...   September 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

We shouldn't let someone who uses their computer so incompetently have a governmental office, especially when they're conducting so much business over via personal e-mail.

Wen Ho Lee got thrown in jail for smaller unintentional oversights.

Advice to what is left of the Democrat party. If you don't start purging your party of lunatics, morons and Communists, you will fall into the trash heap of history like the Soviets.

What America has been watching over the last eight years is Russia, circa 1917. If McCain wins in November, these idiots are going to take to the streets destroying everything in their path.

Honest Abe   September 17th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Welcome to the majors in the political game! Palin's an idiot and everyone knows it.

Maria Texas   September 17th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Just goes to show you how obama is using the milions of dollars from fundraising from average americans and from corporate america—he's hired ruthless hackers (probably ex-cons who hire cheap), to hack into the Governor's email. That's how desperate obama is.

Fed Up   September 17th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Good job McSame!

Let's do everything we can to keep the focus OFF of the issues, and on anything BUT the issues. Who cares?

No matter how much lipstick you put on the pig, it's still McSame.

Just say NO to Bush 44.

Go Obama!!!

Peter   September 17th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I am already having trouble getting over all the lies this women has told. Now I have to accept that the woman I am being asked to consider as one heartbeat away from the presidency is so stupid as to conduct business via Yahoo mail.
OMG: The Actuary tables how there is a 30% chance someone the age of John McCain could die whilst in office!!!!

Jenny, Rio Vista, CA   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Ms. Palin: Let me give you a little lesson about the internet. email accounts, such as Yahoo can be easily accessed by hackers. You would have been better off conducting your government business on the government site where they have a thing called a "firewall". This firewall helps to prevent hackers from accessing important information.

Now if you weren't so naive about the internet and didn't have anything to hide maybe this wouldn't have happened.

Another reason why I won't vote for you.

MD in ND   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Go ahead… we know you are going to blame the Obama camapaign.

Lynne - Seattle WA   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Hacking is wrong…but if this has the Republicans running scared….what are they so afraid hackers might find???? Abuses of power? Limited ability to do the job of VP? She likes pictures of puppies and kitties? WHAT?

Enlightened Voter   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

One scandal after another. Wow, I guess if she and john get elected Americans won't need to watch the soap operas any more, Palin will provide plenty of drama.
Mccain/Palin are pathological liars and ghetto minded.

Welcome back Biff, Biffington!

mike   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Besides her gender, I dont see much of a difference between her and Bush, and I think the emails should be made public. As soon as they have proof that she even used it once to conduct business the entire account should be opened to the public. Criminals should be punished, not rewarded with one of the most powerful positions in the US.

Ken   September 17th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Leave it up to the Democrats for saying that she is trying to hide something. What a joke!

Obama will do anything to win this race and he doesn't care who he hurts on the way.

It is time for the Democrat Party to realize that they made a very big mistake by voting for Obama to be the nominee instead of Hillary Clinton.

Obama started his downward fall when he named Biden over Hillary Clinton for his VP.

I am a Hillary Clinton supporter who is voting for McCain/Palin!

McCain/Palin 2008

Wal-Mart moms are going to be outraged by this invasion of her privacy, as well as blue collar men. Sarah Palin is headed for victory in November and she was helped along by ignorant Obama supporters and the media.

Justin Macumber   September 17th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

So, they want to initiate a probe over this, but they want to sue over the Trooper probe? Hypocrite much?

Michael   September 17th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Yep, lets investigate….

Why is she using a private e-mail address for State Government Business?? Is it a cover-up, is it an attempt to concele the truth?

Hey Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin, what happened to REFORM, what happened to….. Transparency…. What happened to the "Straight-Talk Express"

The Bus has left the station, without a driver, and the bus is heading over the cliff!!!!!!!!!!!!

George Ennis from Toronto, Canada   September 17th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

How odd that in a personal e-mail account there should be so many e-mails that are apparently dealing with government officials in an official capacity.

It is clear that if government business is being done over a private network through personal e-mail accounts than the Governor has ignored and possibly violated official security protocols. Hopefully she will not act in a similar capacity if she would be elected VP or become President. I would hate to see Islamic terrorists hack into her personal e-mail system to learn about US military strategy

Was for Hillary, now for Obama 100%   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Of course she's using her personal address in order to keep things off the state record. Good for whomever leaked this. We have a right to know just how corrupt Sarah Palin is!!!

Obama-Biden '08!

Yasriel   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Why would a state governor use Yahoo to conduct state business?
The more I hear about this woman, the scarier it becomes. She is a fraud, a wacko evangelical and a liar.

Timmy Coffee   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Liar, dammed liar and Daddy of all Liars un-American John S. McCain. Republican populist ,,,now that is an oxymoron.

SK   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Hm - I think that any individual linked to this "breach" (if there ever was one) should not cooperate with the investigation due to party politics getting involved. Better - sue the McCain campaign !!!

the other jd   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Well it's better than when she was just posting to her my space page.

Obama is My Vote Too   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

I don't agree with anyone hecking into someone's personal files. However, it leads me to ask: What is she hiding???

PalinLiesTooMuch   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Palin you can run but you can not hide the truth will come soon. Republican campagn again is trying to divert the real issue about the economy that they know nothing about, to bogus accusation, no one is going to beleive this scrap they are trying to pull.

DaveD   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

"This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy…"

Didn't McCain vote for the Patriot Act, and warentless wiretaps? He should be well aware that there is no longer any such thing as privacy in America. If the government is allowed to snoop on us, then we are allowed to snoop on them. After all, we *are* the government.

Blair Georgia   September 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

looks like obama is doing what he does best. Just like the Chicago Mafia gets others to do his durty work so he can stand there grinning from one big ear to another and claim i kne nothing about it. Well it will all come out in the wash for obama. He will be found out. I just hope it is before the election and not after.

Nick - Arlington, VA   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

I'm surprised they didnt blame obama…..it was hacked by "Anonymous" the anti-Scientology group which seems to have sniffed out another whacko…i.e. Palin.

Beverly, NYC   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Too funny. They won't cooperate in an ongoing investigation in Alaska, but her e-mail hack is now top priority, NOT. Here's a clue it the ECONOMY stupid!

D&D   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Lies, lies and lies…that's the best she can do!

gene   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Oh my god.. this is like a bad movie! Anyone else here see this e-mail hack as a prerequisit to show that any of Palin's emails found to be incriminating should be discarded because of "the hack"?

This is obsurd. If her e-mails here hacked back in July.. don't you think someone would have said something back then? This is so insane… I'm fuming here. If people actually buy this load of garbage.. they should be forbidden from voting based solely on having a lack of a functioning brain.

Anyonmous   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Wow if this is linked to Obama in any way (not saying it is mind you just IF it is)

All you kiddies for whom this is your first election should quickly read up on what 'watergate' really was.

Just my two cents.

"The First Woman President", of the USA! My Psychics are at it again.
It's crazy! I see too much sometimes… Scary!!!

AMERICA'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH SARAH WAS A ONE NITE STAND   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Maybe she should have used her goverment e-mail one would hope that was more secure than Yahoo.

Of couse, she is a yahoo, so, there must be some irony in there somewhere.

Guess, they will not a subpoena that she will just ignore for these e-mails

Must be the payback when your a liar and dishonest!

joe   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Give that hacker the peabody award.

Yasriel   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

If that was truly her email, then she is really a dumb or a fraud for conducting official state business using a public email space…Yahoo! for that matter.

Hitler Youth for Obama   September 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

More inspired youth doing Obama's bidding at Obama's request.

Obama the uniter - of the divisive, hateful states of Amerika.

What an ability to inspire, Obama has.

What great change he will bring us.

CM   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Aren't you guys involved in another investigation? You know….the one that said you abused your power as governor?

Why don't you try cooperating with that as you originally said you would?

angelic1   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

the only reason she would be using her personal email for government business is to hide something. i say there's so little transparency in the alaskan government, we ought to be very scared of putting palin anywhere near the white house. and the campaign's attempt to stop the troopergate investigation is furthering public belief that sarah was engaged in fishy behavior. alaska is not known for it's corrupt officials based entirely on media distortion, afterall.

Matt   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Sorry, I'm usually not one for conspiracy nonsense, but after the past couple months of having to listen to Republicans on blogs fake they were disaffected Clinton supporters in order to exacerbate the division within the Democratic Party and spout republican talking points, I cannot help but wonder whether the supposed "hacker" was just another Republican plant.

Emily   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Is she hiding something?

Obama Supporter from FL   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

That's uncool. And I really dislike the idea that random people can hack your yahoo account!!!

Ken in Dallas   September 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

One good reason not to use Yahoo mail for state business is that it's not all that secure. It's not that shocking to hear that a Yahoo account's been penetrated.

On the other hand, if the email messages involved were state business, they belong in the public record anyway, which is the real reason it's wrong to use a private email account to carry out state business.

INDEPENDENT NOW   September 17th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

just like she was hiding the tanning bed (she purchased herself) The dems are starting to look like watergate…. Your losing ground Obama

CM   September 17th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Whoops…got that notice earlier about this but didn't think it was true.

So if they do catch who did this then they get tried for breaking into private systems if Yahoo decides to press charges?

How stupid are you to conduct state business with personal email? Avoiding disclosure of internal emails by subpoena by using Yahoo seems kind dumb now huh?

Can't McCain fix this? Didn't he invent the Blackberry?

HunkyManForJustice   September 17th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Oooooh, wonder what's in there.

Off message   September 17th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

The democrats have lost their way…

They have now become those they feared.

I guess that is Obama's inspiration we are seeing at work.

Never so much hatred, have I seen, as the vitriol that Obama agitates and incites in his devout following.

Alicia, Flushing, NY   September 17th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

Every attack on Sarah Palin gets her 5,000 more votes. The Dems. and the media are burying themselves with each attack they launch.

Keep it up and she'll be in the White House come inauguration day.

Sarah Palin 12 & 16′

Jenny from Chicago   September 17th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

Stop trying to put Palin back in the headlines McCain. There are more important things to discuss at the moment.

Let me guess, Obama did it? Wait for it….wait for it…

Pam   September 17th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

Wow, they must really be worried about what emails were there.

Georgia Gal   September 17th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Serves her right. If she had used the government email address they gave her maybe she wouldn't have been hacked (I would think a government server would have more protection than a Yahoo server).

I Invented the McMuffin... and fire   September 17th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

If Gov Piglips were honorable and forthright, these hackers (if there are any) wouldn't have any reason to try and uncover the "truth". Try to hide and you'll be smoked out like a rat…

BIG ED   September 17th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

With Wall Street’s financial institutions in turmoil, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) argued in a series of interviews today that his experience on the Senate Commerce Committee meant he knew “how to fix this economy.” “I understand the economy. I was chairman of the Commerce Committee that oversights every part of our economy,” McCain told CNBC’s Squawk Box……Watch It

But, as the Washington Post points out, the Commerce Committee doesn’t oversee “every part of our economy,” let alone “the very areas now in crisis“. In fact, it is the Senate Banking Committee that has oversight of “banks, banking and financial institutions; control of prices of commodities, rents and services; federal monetary policy, including the Federal Reserve System; financial aid to commerce and industry and money and credit, including currency and coinage.” According to its Web site, the Commerce Committee oversees 13 areas, beginning with the Coast Guard, and continuing through “regulation of consumer products and services … except for credit, financial services, and housing” — the very areas now in crisis.

It’s not that surprising that McCain is confused about the Commerce Committee’s economic responsibilities, considering that he freely admits, “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.”

Sarah Bell   September 17th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

What is Sarah Palin hiding???? The American people deserve to know. And we demand an explanation as to why John McCain selected someone under investigation for corruption?? How is he getting away with this? Would Obama get away with picking Eliot Spitzer as his running mate??? Oh yea, I forgot about the whole "white privilege" thing. I smell BS.
