The Department of the Attorney General's State Review Boards Secretariat administers the three boards that make decisions on the release of offenders and mentally impaired accused people in Western Australia:
- Prisoners Review Board
- Mentally Impaired Accused Review Board
- Supervised Release Review Board
Prisoners Review Board
The Prisoners Review Board (PRB) is an independent statutory body governed by the Sentence Administration Act 2003. The PRB replaced the Parole Board on 28 January 2007 as part of reforms involving the management of prisoners in Western Australia. An overview of the reforms is available on the PDF below.
The Prisoners Review Board is responsible for all decisions about release on parole. The board also considers prisoner requests for re-entry release orders and re-socialisation programs. Approvals for some board decisions are required by the Minister and the Governor. More information on the Prisoners Review Board is available from its website.
