492nd Bomb Squadron Insignia

"THE EAGER BEAVERS"

The 492nd Bombardment Group (Heavy) was activated in Karachi, India on 25 October 1942 with no aircraft or air crew personnel. These two items would have to wait until the two senior squadrons of the 7th Bombardment Group (the 9th and 436th) had finished their transition from the Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" to the Consolidated B-24 "Liberator". Once those two squadrons had finished their transition, and the 492nd had received enough air crew and air craft to be declared operational, they quickly made up for lost time, making their combat debut on 24 January 1943 by attacking the dock areas of Rangoon, Burma.
