Nine Network - The Shak
  Author: Nine Network | Mar 22, 2006, 11:02

Premieres Monday, March 27 at 4.00pm.

Weekday afternoons, Monday to Thursday, will get an energetic boost of “adventuretainment” when the funky and fresh new children’s series, THE SHAK, premieres on Monday, March 27 at 4.00pm on Channel Nine.

Created by executive producer Teague McGrath and produced at Nine in Queensland, this vibrant infotainment program takes young viewers on daily adventures of discovery, offering an interactive and engaging approach to children’s television.

“We have road-tested The Shak in schools and already have had a huge response. Kids love how the program invites them to get directly involved and be a part of what they see on television,” McGrath said.

Viewers can send The Shak clubhouse their queries by mail, email (, SMS (1999THESHAK) or video to be solved by one of the four fictional Shak characters in each themed episode.

They can access additional information by visiting the official website – – and through The Shak’s magazine partner, Disney Adventures.

Four new Queensland talents play the dynamic presenters in The Shak: Curio (Drew Jarvis, 25), the science and computer wizard; Nitro (Beau Walker, 20), the energetic sports addict; Eco (Jacqueline Duncan, 21), the animal lover and environmentalist; and Picasso (Kendal Nagorcka, 18), the arty, pop-culture buff. The Shak is targeted at five-to-14-year-olds.

The Nine Network, in affiliation with Warner Village Theme Parks, built the exterior set of The Shak on location at Sea World and all interiors are shot at Channel Nine’s Mt Coot-tha studios in Brisbane.

Channel Nine Managing Director (Queensland), Mr Chris Taylor, said: “I’m excited and very proud of The Shak. It’s a top-quality program for young viewers and is yet another strong showing from Nine’s children’s television department which follows in the successful footsteps of [HOT] Source and New MacDonald’s Farm.”
