Texas Tech-Texas A&M Preview Capsule

10/16/2008

Associated Press

No. 7 Texas Tech (6-0) vs. Texas A&M (2-4), 11 a.m. CDT Saturday (FSN)

Line: Texas Tech by 21.

Series Record: Texas A&M leads 34-31-1.

Last Meeting: 2007, Texas Tech 35-7.

What's at Stake

Texas Tech needs a win leading into a stretch of four straight nationally ranked opponents — Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Texas A&M is just looking for respectability after giving up 100 points in its first two Big 12 games.

Key Matchup

Texas Tech's offense vs. Texas A&M's defense. The Red Raiders run the nation's most productive passing offense, averaging 413 yards per game. The Aggies lead the Big 12 in pass defense, but that's deceiving because A&M played Army and its run-heavy triple option. A&M has given up nine pass plays of 20 yards or more in the past two games.

Players to Watch

Texas Tech: QB Graham Harrell and WR Michael Crabtree. Harrell ranks eighth nationally in pass efficiency and Crabtree ranks fourth nationally in receiving yards per game (108.83).

Texas A&M: QB Jerrod Johnson. The sophomore's development has been overshadowed by A&M's deficiencies. Johnson completed 29 of 41 passes for a school-record 419 yards in a 44-30 loss to Kansas State. He also accounted for 487 yards of total offense, another school record.
