  • Through Oct. 5, 2008, Flores ranked 21st in the nation by purse earnings, with $6,482,484 and 80 wins from 633 mounts. He visited the winner’s circle 13% of the time, with a 38% in the money percentage.
  • After 13 previous tries, won his first Breeders’ Cup race with Tempera in the 2001 Juvenile Fillies. Two more winners followed with Action This Day (2003 Juvenile) and Singletary (2004 Mile). In 2007, ran 3rd in the Classic with Awesome Gem, 2nd in the Sprint with Idiot Proof, 4th in the Juvenile Fillies with Tasha’s Miracle, and 10th in the Filly & Mare Sprint with Jazzy.

  • In 2006 was elected to a Western Region seat for the Jockeys’ Guild.
  • Besides Breeders’ Cup races, other $1 million wins include the 2003 Arlington Million with the well-traveled Sulamani and two races at Nad-Al-Sheba in 2001, the United Arab Emirates Derby with Express Tour and the Godolphin Mile with Festival of Light.
  • Joined Southern California jockey colony in 1989, has been based there ever since.
  • His first win was on March 3, 1984, aboard Swift Doc at Caliente, where he set an apprentice record with 61 wins.
  • His late father was a jockey in Tijuana and later an exercise rider in Southern California who inspired David to begin riding match races at age 8 in Tijuana.
  • Supports orphanage Ciudad de los Ninos in Tijuana and sponsors a golf tournament nearly every year during Del Mar season with the proceeds going to the orphanage.
