Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire (upcoming Inkheart), who won a Pulitzer in 2007 for his drama "Rabbit Hole," is in final negotiations to write Spider-Man 4 for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad. Kirsten Dunst also is expected to return for the latest movie featuring the Marvel Comics character.
Plot details are under lock and key.
James Vanderbilt previously wrote a draft of Spider-Man 4.
Lindsay-Abaire's "Rabbit Hole," which starred Cynthia Nixon and Tyne Daly, hit the Broadway stage in 2006 and won four Tonys, including best play. The writer also is known for the play "Fuddy Meers."
Who knows, maybe an unknown talent is what this franchise needs in order to reboot itself.

I would love to see Kingpin , Lizard, Rhino and the rest of the Sinnister Six, and Black Cat since its a two parter.
Posted by: in hawaii on October 31, 2008 at 02:18:06
James Vanderbilt penned the "2-parter" . . guess that's off the table . .

at least this shows they are actually spending time on getting the right script rather than just making it up as they go like they did with 3.
Posted by: sncfrk on October 31, 2008 at 02:31:52
yea is there no 2-movie arc anymore? I was really looking forward to that..
Posted by: Shaan on October 31, 2008 at 02:37:30
dude.... Rabbit Hole was an AMAZING play!
..............aaaaaaaaaand also incredibly depressing. I saw it last year. Dude... this guy can write
Posted by: deacon on October 31, 2008 at 02:38:55
I thought they already have a script or the idea for Spidey 4 & 5.
Now they need a great talent just to polish the script?
4 & 5 is epic enough compare to a trilogy idea for Superman reboot.

Has Raimi ever made any comments publicly about whether or not he was disappointed with Spidey 3?
If he has, that could be a good sign that hopefully a fourth movie might be better, should he be allowed to have more control.

Raimi is an old school Spidey fan and tacking on Venom wasn't really his idea- so I have a good feeling that this will restore Spidey to its former glory. Pretty sure they'll let Raimi do Spidey his way. The franchise will benefit greatly by letting Raimi get his love for spidey's classic villains out of his system.
Lindsay-Abaire seems a good move- probably to amp up the emotional drama of Peter Parker's life.

Bring on Mac Gargan(scorpion) and The Lizard!

probably would cost a lot for marvel to get back spidey...but it might be worth it when everybody finds out that they would either revamp it or continue it, whatever it is. just knowing, everybody would be interested and would pay for it. probably even make more money that getting it back? never know, just a thought. hey marvel, what do you think? oh yeah, any chance on have MUA gold edition for PS3 before part 2 of that game comes out? thanks! by the way, thanks stan lee for signing my sm3 poster back then!

How bout mysterio( Bruce Campbell)
Posted by: bloop on October 31, 2008 at 04:12:04
this is rubbish! Inkheart?! That film bombed! It wasn't even released in cinemas in the UK, and if it was, it wasn't anywhere near me. Why do they continue to put people without a clue as the main writers?! Marvel need to set-up a school for scriptwriters, so they can churn out stories from people who know something about marvel and its world.

The franchise got worse and worse. Spiderman 1 is a really nice Spidey movie but after that it got really bad. Spidey 2 had to many face time for Toby (it was like: "Do I really have to wear this mask?", the story was such a bad romantic comedy and Doc Oc looked cool but had nearly nothing in common with the reall Doc Oc (not a good guy!!!!). I guess, I don't have to start on the worst - Spiderman 3. So Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire do another two, no matter who is writing the script, it'll be rubbish!
