Pan-American Games Rio 2007: Double victory for host Brazil


Last week-end the finals of the handball tournaments at the XV Pan-American Games were played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the women's final, host Brazil beat Cuba with 30:17 to claim the gold medal, as did their male counterparts, who prevailed against Argentina with 30:22. The matches for the bronze medals were won by Argentina's women (23:22 against Dominican Republic) and the men's team of Cuba (24:23 against Uruguay).

As the tournament was at the same time an integral part of the qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games, the gold medal winners also booked their ticket to Beijing as Pan-America's continental representatives.

Final ranking (Women): 1. BRA, 2. CUB, 3. ARG, 4. DOM, 5. MEX, 6. CAN, 7. PAR, 8. PUR
