Jerry "Hands" Espenson on the ABC Television Network's "Boston Legal"
For his role as Jerry Espenson on "Boston Legal," Christian Clemenson won the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, and was nominated again in 2007.
Clemenson was born in Humboldt, Iowa and was a paper boy for the Des Moines Register newspaper, which awarded him a scholarship to attend the Phillips Academy in Massachusetts. During that time, he was inspired by the theatre and appeared in several local summer productions at the Castle Theatre in Iowa. His first play was "Hansel & Gretel," and although the first performance was dampened by a thunderous downpour, Clemenson's interest in the theatre took storm. Numerous productions followed, including starring and directing in "Wait Until Dark."
After receiving a degree from Harvard and graduating from Yale's prestigious Drama School, Clemenson moved to Los Angeles. Feature film roles soon followed, including "Hannah and Her Sisters," "Legal Eagles," "Heartburn," "Broadcast News" and "Bad Influence." Other credits include "Lost & Found," Armageddon," "Mighty Joe Young," "Apollo 13" and "The Big Lebowski." In addition, Clemenson received stellar reviews for his role as Thomas Burnett in "United 93."
On television Clemenson appeared in such series as "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.," "Murder One," "Cybill," "Mad About You," "Ally McBeal," "L.A. Law," "NYPD Blue," "CSI," "Numb3rs," "Veronica Mars," "Crossing Jordan" and "The West Wing," as well as the landmark HBO film, "And the Band Played On."
On Broadway, Clemenson appeared in "Noises Off" and in productions at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Yale Repertory Theatre and the American Repertory Theatre.
Clemenson lives in Los Angeles with his two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and is active in the organization Meals on Wheels. He is proud to have run the Los Angeles Marathon in 2005 in under four hours, and he is also a seasoned hiker. Whether while running or hiking, when it thunderstorms, Clemenson smiles and is reminded of the road from Humboldt to Hollywood.
