Player of the Year 2001-2002

Félicitations to Monsieur Arthur Gnohere , who has won the London Clarets Player of the Year award for 2001-2002. He was presented with his award at Burnley FC's end of season presentation evening, when the various supporters clubs hand out the gongs. All through the season London Clarets members voted for their top two players after each match, and at the end, it was Arthur who topped the poll. It's been an extraordinary first season in English football for Arthur, during which he quickly became a firm crowd favourite, so, it's chapeaux off! He becomes the first overseas winner of our award. Glen Little finished second, and Steve Davis came third.

For a big long list of the various winners, Click here. Congratulations to Dean West, who picked up the lion's share.

We believe our method of selecting our Player of the Year is unique amongst the Burnley supporters clubs. Our membership directly chooses the Player of the Year on the basis of votes cast after every Burnley match. The system is simple. Members get two votes, for their first and second choices of man of the match for any Clarets match they attend. Their first choice gets two points, their second choice one point. These votes are added up to find a Man of the Match for each game and, at the end of the season, a Player of the Year.

This means our Player of the Year award should genuinely represent merit over an entire season, rather than being biased towards a late season burst of form.

The Player of the Year is now announced at Burnley FC's annual end of season presentation evening, where the winner is presented with the trophy. The Player of the Year for 2000-01 was Ian Cox.

Previous winners, working backwards, include Steve Davis for 1999-2000, Glen Little, Gerry Harrison, David Eyres, Kurt Nogan and Steve Davis again (several times).

The eminent Pub Guru Woody is keeper of the Player of the Year votes. You can give your votes to him any time, after each game or in one chunk at the end of the season, providing you do so no later than the last day of the season, either in person or by writing to his address, which you will find in the inside back cover of the magazine.

Please note that only paid-up London Clarets members can vote for our Player of the Year. Games watched on TV do not count, only matches attended in person.
