A Swingin’ Summer
Pasadena Summer Fest at the Rose Bowl serves up food, art, family fun and Playboy Jazz

Think Pasadena and thoughts come to mind of the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl game. But Memorial Day weekend is rapidly putting the city on the map as a destination for another mega-event: Pasadena Summer Fest, serving up a weekend’s worth of all-ages family entertainment, art and music.
And it’s all free.
Saturday through Monday, the Rose Bowl will once again be the scene of the action, as thousands of visitors take in attractions ranging from the Summer Art Fest to the Family Fun Fest, a Taste of Summer, the Sports Zone and, of course, Playboy Jazz at the Rose Bowl.
The new location, transplanted last year from its former home in Central Park, has proved a beneficial move for festival organizers and attendees alike.
Commenting on the festival’s maiden run at the Rose Bowl, Summer Fest producer Ray Leier of Del Mano Productions says, “It went great. Everybody loved the new location, nothing like sitting inside the Rose Bowl having a good time. The weather was not too hot, the music was great, no complaints that way.”
As for this year, Leier says that things should only get better.
“We as an organization are going to be taking over all the food and beverage sales. That’s going to enable us to bring the cost of food and beverages down to a more realistic level. I’m excited about that.” Put simply, Leier says, “You’re not going to have to pay $7 for a beer.”
