Danyelle Sargeant Crashed and Burned on ESPN and Now Fox … What’s Next, CBS?

Media Gossip/Musings, Sad., Video 60 Comments »

Are you in the camp that feels sorry FOX’s Danyelle Sargent, who memorably dropped an F-bomb on ESPN two years ago, and this weekend, completely bungled an interview with 49ers coach Mike Singletary? Do you feel bad that anytime she walks into a job interview in the next 15 years, this is all anyone’s immediately going to think of? (For what it’s worth, Singletary and Bill Walsh did have a friendly relationship.) Read the rest of this entry »

Bummer: FNL to Lose Smash and Street

Sad., Television 31 Comments »

If Friday Night Lights absolutely had to cut anyone, why not Saracen? He’s milquetoast and annoying. Sure, we like his Doug Flutie spunk at QB, but if he’s not dating the coach’s daughter, the kid is useless. The show needs Smash. Who will replace his braggadocio? We do agree, however, that his college storyline would have been difficult. As for Jason Street … outside of Tim Riggins, is there a better actor on the show? Some of the show’s most emotional moments last season involved Street, who was confined to a wheelchair after being paralyzed in the first episode of the series. Read the rest of this entry »

It Pays - Well, in Fact - To Be a Deranged Superfan

Fans, Sad. 42 Comments »

Not sure if you’ll find this sad, disturbing, neat, or all three: There’s this guy named Cameron Hughes, and he is totally That Sports Fan who goes to the stadium all decked out and ready to root lustily and excessively for the home team. Rain or shine, win or loss, boring or exciting - this dude is making noise. And he’s getting paid. Handsomely. Read the rest of this entry »

“They’re All Gone.” :: Jim Mckay Dies at Age 86

Media Gossip/Musings, Sad. 12 Comments »

Legendary broadcaster and voice Jim McKay died at his home in Monkton, Maryland due to natural causes, on the day of the Belmont Stakes.  I point that out because McKay said his favorite sport was horse racing and Big Brown will be attempting history today.

He was host of ABC’s influential “Wide World of Sports” for more than 40 years, starting in 1961. The weekend series introduced viewers to all manner of strange, compelling and far-flung sports events. The show provided an international reach long before exotic backdrops became a staple of sports television.

Whatcha Gonna Do, Brother, When Hypocrisy Runs Wild on Youuu!?

Rich Old White People, Sad., Sick and Twisted Individuals, What the hell is wrong with people 20 Comments »

Continuing our ongoing coverage of “Hogan Knows Douche“, we turn our attention to the Graziano family’s reaction to the Hogan phone calls. As a history refresher, Nick Hogan called the man and his one time friend now suffering from brain damage, John Graziano, a “negative person” while speaking to his papa in jail:

HULK: I don’t know what type of person John was, or what he did to get himself in this situation, I know he was pretty aggressive, and he used to yell at people and he used to do stuff, and, for some reason man, God laid some heavy shit on that kid, man, I don’t know what he was into…
NICK: John was a negative person.
HULK: He was what?
NICK: He was a negative person.

Hogan (Still) Knows Douche

Rich Old White People, Sad., Sick and Twisted Individuals, What the hell is wrong with people 12 Comments »

With his son Nick in jail for the car accident which landed his lifelong friend John Graziano in a vegetable state, father Hulk continues to show what a selfish a–hole he is.  Last week, Hulk told son Nick he had to “man up”, after Nick complained to him about the treatment he was receiving from fellow jail-mates. As a result, Nick moved facilities.

About four months ago, we learned the Hogans used the Graziano accident to bring attention to “the importance of wearing a seatbelt”, because you know, Nick had nothing to do with Graziano being unable to function properly.  The Hogans refuse to take accountability for their actions, and yesterday TMZ reported that Nick told his papa that one time Graziano was a “negative person“.  Yes, a Marine who served his country was a bad influence on a 17 year old rich punk with a history of reckless driving.  Hulk reportedly told Nick that “God laid some sh** on him”, referring to Graziano’s current state.

Keeley Hazell is just, how do I say this without being a pervert, … delicious.  She’s a model for Page 3 in the UK Sun and is 100% all natural.  This is her posing as a Baywatch star or something closely related.  Who really cares, though?  As for some interesting news, did you know that the Snickers bar was named after the Mars family’s pet horse?

It’s true.  Also true is my presence here today.  Send all links, tips and info to patrick@joesportsfan.com.

College Football, Hazing, Sad. 46 Comments »

Kevin Hart, a lineman from Nevada, gathered his entire school in the gymnasium to announce which college football program he’d be joining in the fall. Once all eyes and ears were on him, he announced his intention to attend the University of California.

Too bad nobody from Cal had ever heard of the kid: (Rivals.com via Detroit Free Press)

The Cal staff has had no contact whatsoever with Coach Hodges or Hart, and they have not visited him; nor has Hart been on a recruiting trip to any school. Read the rest of this entry »

Sad Holiday News

Sad. 7 Comments »

The global sad news is that Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistani opposition leader, was assassinated this morning in Islamabad. The local sad news is that on Christmas Eve, a 90-year-old driver ran a stop sign and plowed into a vehicle, flipping it. A Michigan-bound football player was injured in the wreck - they were going to Church - and his father and girlfriend died. One of his brothers is in critical condition. Nobody was wearing a seat belt (except the 90-year-old, who survived). This is particularly upsetting because we lost a relative who wasn’t wearing a seat belt in a car accident a couple years ago. Wear seat belts, people.
