The father of a Melbourne woman found not guilty of drug trafficking by an Indian court, says he is elated.

Kelly Trueman was arrested in March 2006 and charged with exporting 5.7 kilograms of hashish.

She had been held on remand in a Mumbai jail for the past two years and eight months.

She has being released into the custody of her mother, who has been based in the city.

Ms Trueman's father Michael says the family is looking forward to her coming home.
