The FA Women's Community Shield

The FA Women's Community Shield is held, like the men's equivalent, before the start of every season to kick-off the league campaign and is contested by the League champions and The FA Cup winners.

The Football Association held the first ever women’s charity match to kick-off the 2000-01 season when Charlton Athletic and Arsenal met at Fulham's Craven Cottage. The game was a draw and much-needed money was raised for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

The inaugral Women's Charity Shield took place the following season, and since 2002 the season has kicked off with The FA Women's Community Shield, in partnership with Nationwide.
