07/01/08 M.E.N Arena Named Most Popular Entertainment Venue on Planet
The M.E.N Arena has been crowned the most popular entertainment venue in the world - beating New York's Madison Square Garden Arena and London's O2 Arena into second and third place.
Official figures for the top 50 arenas worldwide, released this week by industry experts Pollstar, show 1,245,196 concert-goers flocked through the doors of the Manchester venue last year.
The SMG (Europe) managed and operated arena has now sold an unrivalled 5 ½ million tickets since January 2002.
John Knight, General Manager for the M.E.N Arena, said: "We just love beating London, and to head the list of so-called iconic music venues in the world is a great buzz for all our staff and concert-goers.
"We started 2007 with six nights of Kylie
and finished with 11 nights of Take That. With shows by Barbra
Streisand, Lionel Richie and Justin Timberlake in-between, it
really was a fantastic year from start to finish.
"2008 looks to be just as strong with Celine Dion choosing us for her first European shows since finishing a four year residency in Las Vegas".
Other acts performing at the M.E.N. Arena in 2008 include The Spice Girls, Kylie, Boyzone, Neil Diamond and comedian Lee Evans.
