For around 300 years the Russian Emperors originated from the Romanov family. A number of Romanov descendants will participate in the ceremony during the reburial of Empress Maria Fedorovna, in Denmark as well as in Russia.
Some of the around 40 members of the Romanov family who are expected to be present at the reburial on the 23rd of September in Roskilde Cathedral are direct descendants of Empress Maria Fedorovna and her two daughters, Grand Duchess Xenia and Grand Duchess Olga. The latter is especially known in Denmark. She accompanied her mother to Denmark in 1918 and later married Nikolai Kulikovsky. A numer of descendants of Olga and Nikolai Kulikovsky, most of whom live in Denmark, will attend the memorial service in Roskilde Cathedral. Among these is Paul Kulikovsky, who will present a short eulogy in honour of his great-great-grandmother, Empress Maria Fedorovna, at the memorial service.
Another representative of the Romanov family, Prince Dimitri Romanov, has a particular allegiance to Denmark. His brother, Nicholas Romanov, who lives in Switzerland, is today considered the Head of the Romanov family. Prince Dimitri Romanov and his Danishborn wife, Princess Dorrit Romanov, have lived in Denmark for many years.
After the service in Roskilde Cathedral all the participating members of the Romanov family will join the motorcade, which will accompany the coffin of Empress Maria Fedorovna from Roskilde to Langelinie in Copenhagen. When the coffin has been placed on board "Esbern Snare" Prince Dimitri and Princess Dorrit Romanov and Paul Kulikovsky will board the vessel and accompany the coffin to St. Petersburg.
In the afternoon, after "Esbern Snare" has set out the Royal Couple will host a reception at Amalienborg for all the present members of the Romanov family and the recently arrived Russian official delegation.
