Formula One's title rivals may have had a disappointing time at the Italian Grand Prix, but both Ferrari and McLaren were still able to feel good about minnows Scuderia Toro Rosso taking a shock maiden victory at Monza.
Sebastian Vettel dominated the Italian GP to take his and Toro Rosso's first victory on an afternoon where the championship gap between Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton changed by just one point.
And although both Ferrari and McLaren were left ruing the missed opportunities of their weekends, they were at least happy to see F1's newest victors cause a surprise.
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said: "Really, congratulations to the Scuderia... sorry, I always say Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro because we are giving the engines to them... to Toro Rosso because they did an extremely fantastic job.
"They deserve it, they are close to us, and we are happy to work with them because we are giving them our engine.
"Sebastian Vettel drove perfectly and he was able to do a fantastic qualifying yesterday and he was able to do a good race today without taking any risks, above all at the beginning in the difficult conditions. So it was a really great job."
Lewis Hamilton, who raced against Vettel in Formula Three Euro Series in 2005, praised the job that the young German did.
"I think he's been fantastic all weekend," said Hamilton. "He's been getting stronger all year. Having won today, it shows how good he is.
"It's great for him. Being out front when you don't have all the spray, it is a lot different from being behind. However, with all that pressure it is easier to make mistakes, and he obviously didn't, so congratulations to him. He did a good job."
