Resistance Review
Today saw the release of Flashpoint Resistance, set several years before the origanal game. Resistance adds all new island and textures to the game and sees you playing on the side of the resistance (hench the name Duh!).

The Package comes with CD, Manaual with CD Key and a Note to Gamers which basically states that Shortcuts for the Origanal will not work and how to play Resistance :)
The manual is really basic and manly deals with multiplayer code. but does mention 2 updates one to do with Graphics the other to do with Dropping weapons.

The following is taken from the readme:

New single player missions
---------------------------

There are 5 new single player missions included. Select Single Missions and double-click 'Resistance...' to access new single player missions

New multiplayer missions
------------------------

There are 9 new multiplayer missions included. Select Multiplayer and choose any of missions at the new island Nogova.

New graphics
------------

There is an entirely new island, Nogova, with new buildings and flora and high resolution textures and models.

There are two new Video options to enhance your experience: visibility and terrain detail settings.
Please note that by setting the values beyond the performance range of your PC you may get very low frame rates in the game.

New vehicles and weapons
------------------------

Vehicles:
---------
- Helicopter V-80
- Civilian Bus
- Police Jeep
- Motorbike

Guns
----
- FM-FAL
- HG G3A4
- UZI

Hand Guns

- Glock 17
- Beretta 92F

First off I usually run Flashpoint with Outlook Express open, resistance doesn't like any applications open, ICQ, SETI Outlook IE anything :( [after a reboot Resistance worked with OE and ICQ open, so after installation I suggest you reboot immediately just in case]

Loading the game up i went into options and set the view distance to 3000 and the Textures to Very High i then went into the Mission Editor and was surprised to see 2 new features listed, these were Show ID and Show Texture, Show Texture colors the map in which makes it alot easier to place units!

to see what resistance looked like i placed a Black Ops (HandGun) and a AH-64 on the map, and went for a spin, i must say the game impresses, the quality looks alot better and everything just seems newer. So far i haven't had time to try the campaign but will update this guide in a few days when i have experienced the game more.

One thing i did notice is the Glock pistol seemed very quiet when fired, and people will be happy to know there are now bridges on the new island (i crashed into it trying to take off :D)

More soon.

Second Thoughts

Well i have now played the first 4 missions of the campaign, and so far it seems to have a smaller learning curve than Flashpoint/RedHammer or maybe i have gotten better at killing Soviets :D

Your Character in the first few missions is sporting a copy of the Codemasters Flashpoint T Shirt which is a nice touch, The cutscenes are especially well done and really add to the game play alot. You do get the feeling that you are strugelling to survive against overwhelming odds. And the Bus ride is fun, though waiting on a bus isnt as bad as waiting on one in the west of Scotland, it still takes awhile to arrive.

Problems: So far only one minor annoyance, in cutscenes especially the voices can be really low, alot lower than Flashpoints ever was.
Graphics: Are looking alot better, and the options now include a scalability option so you can see a very long distance but the quality of the textures is dropped down which is nice and means no over taxing the system (hopefully)

Its still far to early for me to make a decision on what the game is really like but so far i am very impressed, if you dont have it yet go out and buy it.
