Updated: 07/09/08 6:59 AM

Imagine you’re Aaron Rodgers. Since Brett Favre announced his retirement in March, you have been operating under the assumption that you are going to be the new starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Spellbinding match was a masterpiece

To the avid tennis fan, Wimbledon is must-see TV. It is, after all, the granddaddy of all Grand Slam tournaments. But the performances by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in Sunday’s final had to make even the most casual observer sit up and take notice.

A Rivers runs through Celtics’ rise

Updated: 06/19/08 6:39 AM

Doc Rivers was “the other coach” in this year’s NBA Finals. Rivers’ bench skills were widely believed to be inferior to Phil Jackson’s. Jackson owned nine NBA championships, while Rivers coached in only one playoff series before this year.

Bills coaches pay for errors by front office

Updated: 12/10/08 6:36 AM

Perhaps the problem isn’t Dick Jauron any more than it was Mike Mularkey, any more than it was Gregg Williams, any more than it was Wade Phillips. At some point you have to look at history repeating itself and wonder what it is that perpetuates the sad and exasperating status quo that drapes the Buffalo Bills.

Jauron's deferring on possession speaks volumes

TORONTO — Some people think it was either silly or just plain wrong for Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron to defer possession until the second half after winning the coin toss Sunday. I think he should be heralded for his courage.

NEWS SPORTS REPORTER

Updated: 12/17/08 7:37 AM

Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters started the season in a contract dispute but will end it with another invitation to the Pro Bowl. The fifth-year veteran was the only Buffalo player this season who was selected to the first team for the annual all-star game, which is set for Feb. 8 in Honolulu.

Bills may let Hamdan play out string
NEWS SPORTS REPORTER

Updated: 12/17/08 6:47 AM

The Buffalo Bills have little to play for but their pride over the final two games of the regular season, so they’re contemplating starting a third-string quarterback who has thrown only two NFL passes and hasn’t played in a game that mattered in five years. After all, there’s not much left to lose.

Jauron expects to be back
NEWS SPORTS REPORTER

Updated: 12/16/08 6:20 AM

With playoff hopes officially gone, the losses piling up and calls for his firing becoming louder by the week, Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron said Monday that he expects to remain with the team beyond this season. However, he could be making the wrong call on that front, too.

Gill deserved his chance at big time

Updated: 12/18/08 6:31 AM

Warde Manuel called it a “great day” for UB. Turner Gill, his football coach, is staying in Buffalo. Gill is done chasing bigger things for the time being. He’s getting an extension and a nice raise and turning his attention to the International Bowl.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It wasn't Ralph Wilson doing the laughing after this one. It was the Jets, many of whom were snickering into their lockers when they were asked about the decisive play in Sunday's astonishing 31-27 victory over the Bills.

Mets upstaged Yanks with addition of two relievers
NEWS SPORTS REPORTER

Updated: 12/14/08 10:20 AM

Nice recession, huh? Guess that word didn’t get to New York as the Yankees and Mets were the biggest winners at last week’s winter meetings. What happened in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas, however, as it figures to have big impact on the standings next year and beyond.

Coste writes a new chapter to his impressive story

Updated: 10/26/08 7:40 AM

PHILADELPHIA — You want the feel-good story of this World Series? I know the national media is properly making a big deal about 45-year-old Jamie Moyer. This corner, however, feels totally provincial about Chris Coste.

I was bored. I was cold. I was wet. I was disillusioned. So I did something my late mother advised me to do when I was a child. I got out of the rain. I left my seat in the stands to watch the second half of the Buffalo Bills’ 10-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the press box and check out the 97 Rock team of play-by-play man John Murphy and analyst Mark Kelso.
