Where to Wait for the Bus

Stand at Metrobus stops, which are designated with red, white, and blue signs.

Check the bus destination before you board. The route number and destination are displayed above the windshield and on the boarding side of the bus.
Metrorail and Metrobus Transfers

Beginning Jan. 4, 2009 Metro will not issue or accept paper transfers. To get the rail-to-bus discount or to transfer free from bus to bus, you must use SmarTrip®. Until then:
- Get a rail-to-bus transfer when you enter the Metrorail system. With the transfer, you pay a reduced fare on Metrobuses. These transfers are also accepted on most local buses.
- Get a free Metrobus transfer when you get on the bus and pay your fare. Use it within two hours for a free ride on Metrobus, Alexandria DASH, Arlington ART, City of Falls Church GEORGE, Connect-A-Ride, Fairfax Connector, Fairfax CUE, Montgomery County Ride On, PRTC OmniRide or Prince George's County TheBus.

Bicycling has become exceedingly popular as people are using their bicycles every day for commuting, shopping, and general transportation. With this in mind, Metro offers cyclists the Bike 'N Ride program for traveling with your bicycle on Metrobus and Metrorail.
