AIM 6.8 Beta is Now Available, Offers 'Real-Time IM'
Hi, folks.
I just wanted to let you know that a new version of AIM is available for testing. The newest feature that is being introduced is Real-Time IM.
Real-Time IM lets you directly connect to one of your buddies, and as you type, your buddy reads exactly what you're writing (or deleting, too). This new feature requires both buddies to use AIM 6.8 to try out this feature. The AIM team is interested to hear what you think about this new feature, so be sure to send your feedback.
Here are a few screen shots of this new feature:
Start a Real-Time IM via the Actions menu in an IM Window.
As your buddy is typing, you will see their text.
When your buddy finishes typing, their message will appear.

5. Hello. I decided to switch to AIM mail for the integration, but I don't see anyway to control my email notifications on AIM. For example, I'd like it to play a sound, and I'd like it to keep notifying me rather than just once. Am I missing something? Is there any way to set this up, or is this a coming feature? Thanks!

6. Thousands of AOL members are being harassed by the following Buddy Invite message every time they sign in.
"Someone has invited you to be a Buddy on their profile. Want to become a part of their network? Find out who it is now"
It is not clear to the AOL members how to turn off the message.
(Actually, it can be turned off by clicking on the underlined word "now" at the end of the message. This will take you to a web page where you can accept or decline the invitation.)
This feature needs to be redesigned immediately, to make it clear how to turn off the message.

7. Don,
Thanks for the feedback. Our apologies if the message sounds "phishy." I've elevated this to the folks that manage that so they can tweak it.

8. "Someone has invited you to be a Buddy on their profile. Want to become a part of their network? Find out who it is now"
The problem is that this message does not explain how to turn it off, so the same message keeps reappearing every time the member signs in.
Instead of "Find out who it is now", it should say something like "Click HERE for more information".

9. "Someone has invited you to be a Buddy on their profile. Want to become a part of their network? Find out who it is now"
AN EVEN BETTER CHANGE WOULD BE:
Instead of "Find out who it is now", say something like "Click HERE to make your choice".
That way the member would know exactly how to respond to the message, so that the message would go away.

11. I think it's terrible to be able see what a person is typing or deleting. Yahoo already has the feature that you can see THAT the person is typing, which can sometimes be misleading because if the cursor is in the chat window or if they've added a space accidently to the window without submitting it'll say they're still typing... so, doesn't really make a difference.
Seeing what you delete however can be problematic.

12. Cracks me up that this is a NEW feature in 2008. Wooo, that's really cutting edge, the ability to chat and see what each other is typing in real time (like ICQ from many years ago as someone else pointed out, and before that, BBS's and chat boards circa late 80's).
The whole point of typing then sending your message is so that you can think about what you want to type, fix your mistakes, and often times change what you were going to say. Personally I'm not in SUCH a rush that I need to see what someone else is typing before they even finish their sentence.
Hey AOL, why don't you FIX your software so that it REMEMBERS what FONT people were using like all your previous versions did, rather than implementing stupid new features like this. I just LOVE having to change my font type, color, size and style every single time I start up a new chat session with someone...
