I had a line up of four songs on Bitchie Pod this morning before this song hit my inbox. Now I’ve narrowed it down to one. “Change Gon Come” features three of XXL’s Freshman 10, Charles Hamilton, Asher Roth & B.O.B and I can only hope that these guys are an indication of where hip hop is heading.
The track uses “Sam Cook’s” Change Gon Come sample and is produced by Grand Hustle artist B.O.B. While listening to B.O.B it’s hard not to compare him to Andre 3000, but I’d hope he’d be more flattered than offended by the comparison. He’s only 19 and already making a serious buzz in the industry. Much success to the three of them. Definitely what I needed to hear this morning…
*MediaTakeOut reports on everything else but they didn’t report on this story hmmmm*
I wasn’t going to run this story at first because I’m sure most of you never heard of Hip Hop Weekly. It’s like a fake a– Hip Hop tabloid type of magazine run by former Source owners Dave Mays, Benzino and has folks on staff like Wendy Williams and the dude over at Media Take Out. BUT since they took my Tiny/Myspace fiasco statement and printed it as their own on page 57 of the latest issue of the magazine, Here’s an email sent to me by one of my photographer friends putting the magazine on major blast:
You know I got an letter from the editor of Hip Hop Weekly Inviting me to a party their having. I was like how you gonna send me an invite to a party and not my check? Anyway they didnt BCC and judging from the replies I wasn’t the only one feeling that way check out some of the responses below. Should be an interesting party when Dave and Devin are in the house if some of the photographers owed are also there.
Earlier this year there was a crazy rumor that Jay-z’s 150 million partnership deal with Live Nation was falling apart but according to an announcement today, that is far from true. Live Nation has just announced that Jay-z along with production duo Stargate have formed a new label by the name of StarRoc. StarRoc is the first partnership for Roc Nation, Jay-z’s venture with Live Nation and will be comprised of a music label and global publishing company. While disclosing why he chose Stargate, Jay revealed they have been a secret weapon for him over the past two years as they have scored 3 number one hits for Def Jam artists including Rihanna’s “Take A Bow”, “Unfaithful” and Ne-Yo’s “Closer”.
In other news, Jay recently did an interview where he spoke on bringing Hip Hop back to New York, his greatest moments, and the first meeting with his wife. Here are some excerpts:
Taking Hip Hop Back To New York
I mean, once you start something and other places adapt, everyone’s got to get their chance. Like, the West Coast was dominant in hip-hop for a while, then it came back to New York. Now, the South is dominant in hip-hop. It’ll come back to New York as well. What I love about it is it makes guys from New York hungry. Now they’re making music with the intention of, and I’m putting up quotes now, “taking hip-hop back for New York.”
His Greatest Moment - Seeing Diana Ross perform in the rain as a teen
Yeah, I had hormones. I thought she was fantastic. Her hair was blowing. The rain was hitting her face, and her outfit was, well—It was working for me. Continue Reading…
My site will be down periodically today and possibly Monday as I switch hosting providers. (website has been over capacity for the last few days) I’m attempting to make sure we are up and running after the holiday break so I can get out these good stories I’ve been holding on to. I have the Luda Day recap plus some “who’s dating who” news when I get back. Oh, and please pray for New Orleans residents. I’m hearing they are going to have to evacuate again as they are about to experience something far bigger than Katrina. Read More Here
While I’m gone, you can visit me over at Fuse TV. Holla!

There is a huge rumor going around that amongst all the television appearances, paparazzi shots etc of Rihanna, the singer only has a total of about 20 grand to her name. According to an article that’s making it’s rounds via messageboards ,the singer recently fired her accountant for “stealing money” and in retaliation the accountant ran to the media in an attempt to clear her name.
Williams states that Jordan, her publicist from well-respected public relations firm 42-West, Alicia Silverman has built alot of hype around Rihanna’s name but the singer has only made “a little bit above a million” and “all of it was spent on making her as big as she is now. It’s not my fault that she only has 20,000 to her name.”
I can’t find the original source of the article but the break down of her financial situation (in the article) seems a little on point. With the state of the music industry today, this is not surprising… Check out the full article below: Continue Reading…
Terrence Howard is hot on the promo trail with his new album “Shine Throught It” slated to be released on September 2nd. Tanika Ray caught up with him on the set of his new video and spoke with him about his love for music. When she asked “what was his motivation for putting out the album”, Terrence broke down in tears before responding:
â€My mother’s dream to sing, is fulfilled in me, my father’s dream of songwriting, is fulfilled in me, my great-grandmother’s dream to act, is fulfilled in me AND my uncle’s dream to be a guitarist is FULFILLED IN ME!!! I am my family’s dream. The physical manifestation of their dreams.” Read More
According to Tanika, his multicultural family experienced a lot of discrimination and because of that, dreams were denied.
I’ve listened to Terrence’s album and the music was actually pretty good. I think you have to be open to Terrence the musician and let go of the “Terrence is an actor” thoughts to really appreciate his art. Check out “Love Makes You Beautiful” below: Continue Reading…
Ice T and his wife Coco performed a classy act to the record “Body Count” at a Brooklyn Club over the weekend. A spectator’s review of the show:
“Yes that’s Ice T and his wife Coco. Yes…Coco [gets] topless… His son came on stage for a song too - it was a real family affair. I watched the three of them drive off in their Jag right after the show. I’ll never be able to watch Law and Order: SVU the same way again.”
Are you f*cking kidding me? Wasn’t Ice T just slamming Soulja Boy for killing hip hop? I guess Soulja Boy has the last laugh because while he’s making as much as 40 grand off of a single youtube video, Ice T gotta resort to exploiting his wife while performing early 90’s hits to keep the dough rolling in. *sad*
