OTAKU, don’t forget to get your anime and manga fix at the annual Comic Fiesta 2008 that’s being held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The two-day event, which started yesterday, is on from 11am to 7pm.

Meet industry players such as the people from the famous Singaporean illustration studio Imaginary Friends Studios, art college The One Academy, animation company Animasia Studios, and local comics publisher GempakStarz.

A new attraction this year is the Portfolio Pavilion where local artists can submit their works for review by established companies and artists. PC.Com will also be setting up a Game Corner for visitors to try out new games.

Tickets, available at the venue, are priced at RM15 each. Comic Fiesta 2008 is sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Malaysia, Animax Asia and AMD Malaysia. For more information, visit comicfiesta.org.

Mobile anime

ANIMAX Asia, together with Astro and Singapore’s Starhub, has made sure that you’re never far away from your favourite anime.

The trio teamed up to offer “Animax Mobile”, a 3G video streaming service in Malaysia and Singapore, which debuted in November in Malaysia, and December in Singapore.

The service is offered to Maxis and Hotlink 2.5G and 3G customers and Starhub Mobile customers.

Customers can initially try the service for RM1 a day. To further enjoy Animax Mobile, the user will be charged RM5 per month or RM9.99 for a “basic pack” which includes two other channels with no additional data charges.

Subscribers enjoy two hours of full-length anime episodes that are refreshed weekly along with five- to seven-minute clips of other titles. Currently, viewers can watch Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, R.O.D the TV, Blood+ and Last Exile on their handphones.
