SONGDOG Release Their Christmas Single

Welsh alt-folksters SONGDOG release their Christmas single ‘I’m Still Waiting To Start Hurting’ (One Little Indian Records) on Monday 8th December 2008.  This brand-new song is available only as a download.  Their current album ‘A Wretched Sinner’s Song’ is available now from all good record shops.

Rather than a Yuletide knees-up, the new SONGDOG single is a sad and beautiful winter song, in the tradition of, say, Joni Mitchell's ‘River’: another Christmas is coming and a man looks back a year to when he ended a relationship, relieved that it's over but still half in love with the woman he left behind.

What the papers say about SONGDOG

“Their music is dark and sinister and beautiful and Lyndon’s songs are by turns sexy, scary, funny, creepy, heartbreaking and usually always brilliant.” Allan Jones (Editor), Uncut

“Like Nick Cave, he sings as if the world’s end is nigh, and does so convincingly” Q

“Bleak, wry commentary is given full rein over delicate, pared-down acoustic arrangements” Mojo

'Glacier-paced folk noir…the storytelling hints at a real gravity.' NME

'This folk baroque trio bring a theatrical flourish to tales of meaningless sex, urban losers and love gone sour...grippingly grim..' The Independent

'Laid-back folky settings for his storybook ruminations on the ghosts of his past..ripple with admirable tension.' The Sun

SONGDOG fans include BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN who used their track 'Days of Armageddon' as part of the 'walk-in music' for his 2005 European solo tour.

Electric Arguments by The Fireman Is Finally Out

Download + Buy here (http://www.thefiremanmusic.com/purchase)

The Fireman’s much anticipated third studio album Electric Arguments is finally out. Critics around the world have been raving about how great this new album is.  For those who still don’t know The Fireman is a collaborative project between music icon Paul McCartney and revered producer Youth.

On Monday, this week (25th November), Paul visited The Fire Station pub in London to chat to the world’s media about Electric Arguments

Talking about the new album Paul told the media, “ We had creative freedom to make this album any way we wanted.  It could have been very carefully considered but that wouldn’t be The Fireman.”  Talking about working with Youth he added, “I like working with someone.  I like giving up control.  It’s more fun than sitting in a room on your own all day.”

The big difference between this Fireman album and their previous works is that Electric Arguments includes vocals.  The Fireman’s first two albums were instrumental.

On the decision to include vocals this time round Paul commented, “The first two Fireman albums were instrumental.  Youth suggested to me, ‘how about a bit of vocal?’ And I said, ‘well I haven’t got any songs, I’ve got no idea’.  And because it’s The Fireman and anything goes, I said, ‘yeah sure’.  So I just ad-libbed it and eventually a song came out of it.

Earlier this year, in September, it was announced that The Fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference – the duo had found their voice.  Speculation began; one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like ‘Arcade Fire meets Led Zeppelin’.  Certainly so far, anyone who has heard the album has commented on just how accessible Electric Arguments is, compared to the first two Fireman albums.

Electric Arguments by The Fireman is an eclectic and varied album consisting of thirteen tracks recorded in thirteen days over the period of nearly a year.  Each track was written and recorded in the space of one day.  The Fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound.  The project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.  . Electric Arguments demonstrates that Paul McCartney is still interested in pure musical possibilities.  This is an album set to both surprise and delight the listener.  Made with no record company restraints or a set release date to work to, Electric Arguments was made with complete artistic and creative freedom.

Björk 'Debut' DMM reviewed in HiFi World

The remastering and repressing of Debut get a storming review. The combination of digital and vinyl just makes our day here a bjork.com

"The record, previously a single disc affair, has now been mastered over two  discs to run at 45rpm, the higher  sampling rate ensuring the highest quality playback. It also allows the mastering engineer to spread the music widely over each side of people who can take the thing apart  and put it back together.” HiFi World

New Download-only Single From Björk

Download "Nattura" from iTunes - Nattura.info

Björk releases her brand new single “Nattura” through One Little Indian. All proceeds from the track will go towards the Nattura Campaign (www.nattura.info).

The single was composed specifically to encourage active support for the Nattura campaign, which aims at collating and providing sustainable and eco-friendly options suitable for Iceland, and generating alternative ways to utilize it’s natural resources. According to Björk, “It is now more important than ever before to emphasize a respect for nature…I believe that profits, technological advances and working together with nature can all go hand in hand. None need to be sacrificed at the expense of the others.”

The new single is written and produced by Björk and features Radiohead’s Thom Yorke on backing vocals, Brian Chippendale (Lighting Bolt) on drums, Matthew Herbert on synth/bass, and Mark Bell on additional electronic beats. Opening with a huge elemental swirl, “Nattura” then fires up an incendiary and fierce tribal rhythm. The song sees Björk firmly on the march in celebration of her homeland, in hopes that Icelanders harness its energy in a sustainable way.
