Is the future bleak for Adobe Fireworks?

Resources for Adobe Fireworks seem to be few and far between, what is happening? Has Fireworks ran its course, or is it simply not cool any more? Was it ever cool? Photoshop was always the better and more powerful (definitely, harder to use), it seems to have totally taken over. I use Fireworks all the time for quick mock ups, and Photoshop for everything else. It is possibly the easiest graphics editor I have ever used, and would recommend it to anyone.

Anyway, here are the Best (maybe, the only) 70+ Adobe Fireworks Resources.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one to see a bright future for Fireworks.

I love fireworks and use it for most everything. Keep the FW stuff coming! Thanks!

    Forever Love Fireworks!

Fireworks is a must have for productive pre-code UI prototyping. I’ve been using it for UI design since 2000 and haven’t looked back. I’m glad to see the heinous font menu remedied in CS4. Great list, BTW. Thanks!

Sure you can do photoshop type stuff with Fireworks but it’s got a whole heap of functionality that photoshop doesn’t and shouldn’t have.

For wire-framing and mocking up web applications fireworks is simply superb. I don’t see it going anywhere but up :)

Thanks for this list. I’ve been forced to use FW at work lately since we’re too cheap for the PS license. Coming from years of PS use, I’ve found FW limited on the surface. I’m hoping these tutorials will help me dig up some of the tricks I’m used to in PS.

For website graphics, it gives the best compression we can get. I love Fireworks a lot.

Fireworks is a wonderful application. It’s always been cool to use in my opinion. There should definitely be a campaign in the design community to spread the word about it and to educate designers that Photoshop is not always the best tool to use for web design

I can definitely see your point, Joel. However, as someone who has been using Fireworks for years, I probably feel the opposite as you do. Slicing and image-mapping is a lot simpler in Fireworks and as Markos said, Fireworks works great for wire-framing.

The future of Adobe Fireworks is bright and Adobe will surely make it shine.

This is an excellent post. Well done compiling the list.

I use fireworks ALL the time in my designs. As you, I find it so much easier to do quick mockups. But for me, I use it for any web layout. Photoshop is best for more complex graphics - but as a Web Designer (8years) - for putting everything together in terms of layouts - Fireworks is always going to be my weapon of choice.

I’ve recently converted to Fireworks after 15 years with Photoshop because it’s so much more efficient for web design (though Photoshop is the daddy for photo manipulation, obviously). Fireworks has a few bugs that need to be worked around, but overall I’m liking it more. Thanks for the list of resources.

Of course your poll will be heavily biased in favour of Fireworks, as what non-Fireworks users will get that far down the page, or even be reading this article?

    thx for this post.

i use fw exclusively, meaning absolutely no photoshop even though i have it. i just like fw better, and it does my web optimization work more efficiently.
