9 days … 9 miserable days

Click here to read an important update about the Minister of Health’s visit.

PLEASE READ THE UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.

PREAMBLE: This family tragedy you are about to read contains 100% accurate facts related to the family emergency I talked earlier about. This tragedy DID NOT take place in East Timor and NO, it DID NOT take place in Sierra Leone, but unfortunately, it took place in our sweet Amman, during the last two weeks, but above all, it happened to my beloved father.

THE ORDEAL

Day 1: On the afternoon of Sunday the 19th of August, 2007
My father left the house on some usual errands. He never came back that day and, surprisingly, his mobile was switched off. Although it’s unlike my dad to leave the house and not say where he’s going and turn off his mobile, my family thought he was sleeping over at one of his friend’s house and simply ran out of battery, so they didn’t really get worried and thought he’d call the next morning to inform the family where he was.

Day 2:
There’s still no sign of him and his mobile is still turned off. Again, although it’s unlike him, but we reassured ourselves that he’s probably at one of his friends’ spending a jolly good time.

Day 3:
There’s no sign of my dad whatsoever. We started calling all members of the family, all his friends and acquaintances, but no one knew where he was. We try to be positive and pray to God that he’ll show up the next day. Being in Dubai, I was unable to add any value, except give my family more reasons to worry by calling them every 10 minutes. We started getting worried.

Day 4:
Still, no sign of dad. We panic! My family informs the police. The police contacted all hospitals and ran a circulated search on his license plate number. The feeling of helplessness was killing me, but we kept lying to ourselves that he’s doing fine.

Five or six members of the family took turns in calling all Amman hospitals including Prince Hamza Hospital, which they called THREE TIMES. All hospitals assured us that no one with my father’s name was admitted recently.

Day 5:
Another day passes by with no progress. Dad’s mobile is still turned off. We went as far as to think that he got married to another woman and was spending his sweet honey moon in another country, because that’s what a desperate person would think to reassure himself that someone dear to him is doing fine.

Day 6:
Yet another day with empty hands. Our contacts at the border controls and at the airport assured us that my father did not leave the country. At this point, there was little room left for positive thinking. We started fearing the worst.

Day 7:
The fear of the worst intensified. Bad thoughts prevailed and we began to lose hope.

Day 8:
It’s been more than a week since dad left now. There’s no sign of him or his car and his mobile is still turned off! My cousin at the Air Force went beyond his duty and managed to convince his senior to fly a chopper and look for dad’s car in the forests and woods of Amman, but nothing happened. We lost all hope of finding him. I couldn’t eat, drink, sleep or work.

Day 9:
The police found dad’s car! It was found next to the Arab College [الكلية العربية], located in the Gardens Street, parked in a strange way, as if the driver left it in a hurry. It was hit from the left side and there were groceries in the back seat.

The doorman of the closest building to where the car was parked confirmed that an old man came out of the car and looked very sick and some college students took him to a hospital. He did not know which hospital he was transferred to. The Criminal Investigation guys arrived and took fingerprints and the doorman’s statement.

We contact all hospitals again, including Prince Hamza Hospital, as it is the closest public hospital to where dad’s car was found (people in Jordan tend to transfer sick strangers to public hospitals so they wouldn’t have to worry about payments). The operator at Prince Hamza Hospital guaranteed us that no one with my father’s name was admitted into the hospital.

Despite the operator’s assurance, my witty uncle went to that hospital at 10:30 pm of that day. He asked the receptionist if my father was admitted there and the receptionist, who’s also the operator, snapped at my uncle and his exact words were: (يا عمي دوشتونا بهالزملة! ما في ورانا غيركو؟ … يا أخي روحوا دوّروا عليه بمحل ثاني!). English translation: [We’ve had enough of you guys asking about this man. Do you think we have nothing better to do than answer your inquiries? Go look elsewhere!

My uncle demanded to see the register to which the receptionist refused, but my uncle insisted. To get rid of my persistent uncle, the receptionist hands him the register, my uncle flips a page or two back and, believe it or not, THERE IT WAS: my father’s name, written in a very clear and visible handwriting in the patient’s manifest/register, admitted on Sunday the 19th of August, the same day he left the house.

Yes my friends, you are not imagining things. He was admitted to the hospital which my family called FOUR different times and every single time they said NO, there’s no such patient!

I arrived to Amman the next day and needless to say, dad was in a pretty bad shape. He couldn’t move, couldn’t talk and he couldn’t recognize people at first.

THE HORRIFIC FACTS

Dad was driving his car when he became very ill and hit his car where it was found. He got out of his car feeling very dizzy and fell down. Some unknown students took him Prince Hamza Hospital, where he was diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Because the hospital is really bad and I can’t begin to explain how horrible it is, my dad ended up with a) a brain seizure, b) severe pneumonia, c) kidney malfunction and d) blood infection. All which he picked up and was caused by his stay at the Prince Hamza Butchery (that’s what we’re calling it now). The reason his mobile was turned off is because it was stolen, either by the people who transferred him, or most probably at the hospital.

Now let me tell you a little of how my dad was treated in that hospital:

  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: he was left without any clothes on, not even a patient’s robe, which most probably caused the acute pneumonia.
  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: he was left with no food or water, which caused bacteria to form inside his mouth.
  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: none of the hospital’s staff bothered him/herself to inform his family, or the police for that matter, although he had his wallet next to him, and of course all his money was stolen, but he had all his ID’s and friend’s business cards in it. It even had MY business card! Can you imagine how he felt waking up to find no one beside him for 9 days?
  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: he was not given his medication, instead, the nurse would leave his pills on the table next to him, but he couldn’t move God damnit! If it wasn’t for the kind-hearted patient next to him who took it upon himself to give dad his medication and feed him whenever he can, God knows what could’ve happened.
  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: he was left to rot, literally. They did not bathe or clean him even once, and you can never imagine the hygienic condition he was in.
  • For 9 days, 9 miserable days: they did not bother to change his position, which caused really severe bed sores on his buttocks.

We transferred him to a decent hospital the very next day, because we had to wait for the doctor’s release and an ambulance, which they refused to let us use or hire.

What’s even stranger than all that is when we went to the hospital the next day to transfer him, the doctors said he’s doing fine now and all he had was high blood pressure and minor convulsions, so you can take him home now. But after transferring him, the doctors told us he wouldn’t have made it if we took him home, simply because you can’t treat a brain seizure, acute pneumonia, a blood disease and a kidney malfunction at home!

The carelessness and the indifference we saw in the hospital are seriously fatal and without a doubt, a couple of more days at that hospital could’ve been the end of my father.

PRINCE HAMZA HOSPITAL

The Prince Hamza Hospital was only inaugurated last year by King Abdullah II and has cost the Jordanian government (tax payers, i.e, the Jordanian people) more than 67.6 million Jordan Dinars (close to 100 million $!).

The hospital is truly enormous and it looks wonderful from the outside but once you go inside, you’d feel like you’ve entered a ghost town to say the least. Large halls are empty and dirty and I assure you that you can’t find more than a couple of nurses in any of the large wards. The entire hospital is a smoking zone and the sight of patients smoking in their rooms is more than normal. All procedures there are done on papers. Not one computer can be found in the entire hospital and the one and only computer lies in front of the accountant.

POST-DRAMA ACTION

We are thinking of suing them, although people are advising us not to, because it’ll be to no avail and would only be a waste of time, effort and money, simply because we’ll be suing the government (Prince Hamza Hospital) to the government (the courts), but nevertheless, we will carry on with that.

We also called the local Watan FM radio station (100.3 FM) and one of sharp-tongued uncles complained live about the hospital’s carelessness which nearly got an old man killed, in addition to the physical, psychological and mental state my dad was in when we found him, and not mentioning the torment me and family went through during the past two weeks. The radio station then called the hospital’s deputy general manager, Abdel Hafith Kharabsheh, who admitted the hospital is short-staffed and that the staff there are doing their utmost best, which absolutely contradicts to what the Jordanian Minister of Health, Sa’eed Darwazeh, said during the hospital’s inaugural press conference on the 25th of June 2006 (Kindly refer to paragraph 5 of the cached article. The original doesn’t exist for some reason) where he denied that The Prince Hamza Hospital is undermanned and confirmed that the hospital has 159 doctors and 465 nurses, in addition to other 99 medical workers.

But what Mr. Kharabsheh knows very well is that the problem does not lie in the fact that he’s short-staffed, but in the fact that the current staff are absolutely incompetent. All what they had to do is call the man’s family or the police.

I called a close friend of mine at the Jordan Times and told her the tragedy, but, unfortunately, she thinks such tragic stories are unlikely to be carried in the paper.

AND FINALLY …

Although my heart bleeds for what happened to my dear father and to see him this weak and vulnerable, but at least his health condition is stable at the moment and can now recognize us and mumble a few unintelligible words every now and then.

This post will probably be the only platform for me to rant in case the lawsuit fails but I do hope that my voice will be heard somewhere, not just because such incidents should not go unpunished, especially that it happened to my father, but because some action, even if it was too little, can save other people’s lives, it can help eradicate the carelessness and apathy the Jordanian health system suffers from and more importantly … restore some of the lost value of the human life.

UPDATE - (September 6th, 2007)

Upon republishing the story in Addustour Daily, (Batir, I owe you my life), senior officials at the Ministry of Health contacted me yesterday and confirmed that the newly appointed Minister of Health, Dr. Salah Al Mawajdeh, sends his regards and is personally very concerned about this issue and has given direct orders to start an investigation lead by the Head of Internal Auditing Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Azmi Al Hadidi, who called me and visited my dad at the hospital yesterday (September 5th, 2007) and assured us that the investigation will prosecute those who have caused this ordeal.

Dr. Azmi Al Hadidi seemed to be more disturbed by this post and the online and printed media noise it has stirred (thanks for your supportive comments and all you wonderful people who republished the post), and even questioned my patriotism, and little does he know of my patriotism, (all with the presence of Qwaider, who came to visit at a perfect timing, not) nevertheless, Dr. Azmi promised that he won’t cut any slack and will do his best to try and identify those who have committed those grave mistakes on a medical and a managerial level.

We are hopeful that the investigation will lead to enhancing the reputation of The Prince Hamza Hospital and solving the roots of the problem, instead of just dumping it all on a poor scapegoat who barely makes 150 JD’s a month. I will keep you posted with the progress of the investigation.

My father is doing much better now and is slowly recovering, thanks to the professional medical care he is receiving at the Jordanian University Hospital where we transferred him afterwards and where doctors know exactly what they’re doing and nurses are more than happy to take that extra mile to insure the improvement of their patients’ health.

I also apologize for editing some comments some of you left here, but kindly take into consideration that I am not trying to cause an uproar here and am trying to get my voice heard, and it did, thanks to all of you. Therefore I would appreciate it if no profanities were used, as it would affect the progress of the ongoing investigation, in addition to the fact that this post has been forwarded by many people to HM King Abdullah II, HM Queen Rania and HH Prince Hamzah. So please, please, please, keep it clean.

I, unfortunately, had to travel back to Dubai after extending my unpaid leave, because life is tough and now it’s getting tougher, and now we’re in a situation where money is of utmost importance. So you who claim that you’re my friend, although I don’t have to explain myself and my situation to you, but do you think I’d rather leave my dear father in such a circumstance if I didn’t have to? However, my older brother is there and so is the rest of my family who are all attending to my dad.

Thank you all for your deepest concern and for those who were even ready to donate money to start a fund for the lawsuit fees.

I sit here staring at the screen unable to think of what to say from the shock! I feel anger and sadness and I cannot belive how this happened.

How and why would these people do what they did? And in Amman? in the Amman we love??

Inshallah ya rab ya 7sain your dad gets better and this whole thing is behind you.

I never wish ill upon people but I wish that those people who DID NOT take care of your dad to suffer and pay for what they did.

I am so sorry your Dad and family had to go through all this, allah yishfeeh and allah ykoon ma3akom :(

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Tala

Husain,, Ra3abtni!!!! 7amdillah, 7amdillah 7amdillah a million times that this was it and you found him and he is in good health now and inshallah he’ll recover soon,

this is terrible, absolutely you have all the right to sue them,,
what kind of a system that takes 9 days to find a person in a country of 6 million people or hospitals that doesn’t file or check who are its patients, ya akhi suppose ana ma 3indi wlad, and that happened to me,, what could have happened to me? and who’s responsibility would that be!!!!!!!!!! really who’s mistake is this. didn’t they endanger a human’s life with all of this, didn’t that consume all the amount of anxiety you’ll ever feel!!!

if anything positive you’ll ever want to establish for this f**ked up public health system is some unified procedure for hospital management and some good inspection system that is too harsh on drs and nurses that states a standard for all procedures, in a manner that they go by it or they’ll get fired. its people’s lives here.. this is so serious and i believe everyone should protest against it!!

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Tala

thinking about it,, see how corrupt and self centered everyone is, from the doorman who saw the car for days parked to the college student who didnt show up again to the nurse who is heartless and doesn’t use her head to the policemen who was so slow,, if all these people put some small effort,, mish talbeen ykoono super heroes, bas i3mal il 3aleik o khalli 3indak dameer!! imagine how small it would have been if anyone of those just made a call..
kul il nas bas bto23od titfarraj o bit2oul ma khasni..
its not the hospital,, its everything and everyone… see for any of those,, i would sue all of them.. because all of them are guilty.

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 Tala

and all what you hear, read and see,, i love you Amman. meet the patriots!! its the people that need fixing. i am very mad at the moment.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Dima

Oh My GOD!!! Im shocked and speechless!!

7amdilla 3a salamto, the most important thing now is that he’s ok.
What I’d advice you to do is to inform this incident to the Medical Association, my dad is a member for so many years, and they have a party who’s responsible of patient’s inquiries and doctors’ mistakes. Im not 100% sure if hospitals are included in their equation, but believe me if they are then they would do something about it. I can give you my dad’s name and mobile number. And Im sure he’ll help you as much as he can.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Roger

    This is unbelievable and INHUMAN!
    How could such thing happen!!!
Sue that hospital, I think burning it down is better!

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 john doe

This is a one sided story we need to hear the other side before we can pitch a sound judgement.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Catholic Sunni Shia

“john doe said: This is a one sided story we need to hear the other side before we can pitch a sound judgement.”

Really? You really think you need another side of this story because hearing what the receptionist or incompetent hospital staff has to say might change your mind about the fact that an old man was left to rot in his bed for 9 days and nights alone without anyone in that place thinking to figure out who the hell he is and calling his family? Are you from the hospital’s PR unit?

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 jameed

what a horrific story. all the best wishes to your father and the family.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Palforce

    Elhamdelah 3alasalamet elwaled.

    This is real sad.

In the states the best thing is to contact your senator, can’t you do the same in Jordan?

Who is the minister of health in Jordan? they should be liable for this as well. I would ask for explanation, restitution, and what new procedures are they going to do to prevent this in the future.

I would also contact the royal palace, this exact post by email & post mail.

Then if none of those worked, I would contact the media.

That live radio show, newspapers, TV.

But most of all I hope he gets well soon and best restitution is leaving it to God.

    Peace

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Moey

WOW! Hamdella 3al salamto. w allah la ywafeghom! I want my taxes back and now! screw that! if you don’t get a good reply from the minister, I’ll make sure this gets published in magazines

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 kinzi

Who-Sane, i am SO sorry for this unbelievable string of incompetency! It is truly a miracle your dad survived.

Wasn’t anyone remembering that this man was someone’s father, husband, Seedo, and people would be wild with worry?

I disagree with your JT friend, this is a story that will interest many and it needs to be told far and wide to force some change.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Amr

This way I hate Jordan.. what happened with your Dad -may God help him- happens daily every where in Jordan … what can I say more .. I’m speechless… again bets wishes for your dad.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Dave

Sorry about all this, dude. My wife stepped foot in the Prince Hamzeh Hospital one time and said she would never return. Like you said, from the outside it looks really nice, but the inside is dispicable.

    Hope your father fully recovers.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 miss sea lover

1st…7amddellah 3ala salamet el waled…then, yes u hv to do ur best to sue them, ino…what they were thinking…the problem is we ignored many of thier mistakes..so they went on and on..suing them may ope the way..and a very big change could be made by this step…i suggest a pettition..so a change in the law could be made..and believe me, many ppl will sign it..
again 7amdella 3ala salamet el waled

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 verbal alchemy

OMG! its disturbing and shocking reading this and realizing its a true story i cant even begin to imagine how much worse it was living it!

i have always thought inno lissa fi kheir bil dinya and il nas la ba3d and all that crap, and it might still be applicable.. but elsewhere! im so sorry u and urs had to go thru all that due to the not very humane attitude ppl are acquiring.. allah y2awmo bil salameh w yrayye7 balkum nshala.

    Bless!

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Tamara

OMG !! I just read this, I feel my blood boiling in my veins! I don’t know how your uncle stopped himself from killing the operator ?!

Hamdila 3la salamet elwaled, you should try and make as much noise as you can, call Mohammad al wakeel, call all the radio shows that feature complains. in the midst of all this don’t forget that you have been blessed to find him alive and Inshala he will recover fully soon.

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 salam

Incredible!! literally, this is outrageous..you should go all the way sue them and try and publish your story , in any paper that will accept it..i cant see why they wouldn’t..call Mhamad el Wakeel, no matter what people think of him, but this guy sure can make a fuss..and most importantly hamdillla 3ala salmto your dad..wish him a good recovery, soon..horrific!!

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 Mazz

    7amdillah 3assalameh who-sane, inshallah bukra birja3 zay li7san.
as for the whole ordeal… as much as i think it’s futile to sue, i think you should. and maybe this will actually effect the main stream media by making it on the news somewhere.
as for health services in jordan, there’s nothing worse than our lovely government owned facilities. and privately owned hospitals are the most abusive, opportunist and ill hearted organizations.
    allah bi3een…
i remember once there was a family that couldn’t get their beloved mother’s dead body out of the morgue of a private hospital “prefer not to say which cause it’s kinda old and i don’t want to point any fingers unless i’m 100% sure which one it was”cause they were 150 JD’s short of the bill.

bottom line, pray that you don’t get really sick in jordan.

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 bilal

7AMDELLAH 3ALA SALAMTO..I encourage you to sew them coz the reason they are careless is because they know no one gonna do anything to them.
By the way, I am sure they are all competent, but simply they are inhuman. The things they had to do can be done by a 3rd year medicine student.

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 Oriental Arabesque

OMG!! i’m so shocked and so out of words!!
how careless and irresponsible! Allah la ya3tyoun 3afyeh!!

but el 7amdellah 3ala salamto 1000 marra..i hope he recovers soon!

i can’t get over the shock and anger…i swear my blood is boiling!

  34. Gravatar Icon 34 Roba

    Il7amdella 3a salamto!

  35. Gravatar Icon 35 Mariam Ayyash

one of the things u can do “a shot” is go to da2eret mokafa7et el fassad, it would help if u know someone who knows someone (thats pretty easy in amman these days!) they are seperate department from the government and it may help back you up in a suit (they may dont want to go to that extreme but they do things in the dark)
although i urge u to be the first who actually file a law suit against the government, that would encourage others

  36. Gravatar Icon 36 mkilany

A whole mess… from security guys to ER to the administration, not a single person had done his job… I would dare to blame everyone that ever sat beside this man, even the kind patient next to him who saw the wallet and didn’t mind to check what the hell is happening, 9 days and not a single visitor!!! It’s obvious something is wrong!?!?
Everyone involved is so full… Such low and mean people should suffer extreme punishment… At these times I really love beheading… outrageous!!

Blogging changed policies and scared politicians in certain countries.

Kuwaiti Bloggers achieved MAKE IT 5 campaign.

    Jordanian Bloggers not that powerful.

So, I suggest All of you Bloggers who at least commented on this story to republish it so it will get the attention it deserves, and the more the better.

I’m gonna go ahead and republish it and who likes to follow feel free to do so.

7amdellah 3ala salamet el waled I wish him a speady recovery..

well I dont know what to say but this is not the first time to happen in jordan I have seen it many times to people I know and people I dont..but this time its little bit went too far to reflect somethin that are spreading all over the place every where in arab world indivuals are loosing even their humanity and respect to their own species ..unfortunatilly we lost what seperates us from wild west culture we lost our ethics and the irony is that they now have more ethics and mercy than us in their countries for us!!!

my advise sue them blog it all over the universe campaign it even send intillegence officers with even faked reports that could get them into jail for faked stories they deserve to be hurt because the amount of hurt abuse is in no way could be looked at well they didnt mean that no boss they intentionally ment to harm you and your father and your family so you should intentionally take your revenge with a smart way that would really put them in a place that no one can visit them no one can know a shit about them and their families are too damm worried about them as the same as they did to ur father…

simply speaking unhuman people needs unhumanitarian measures to understand that yeah if u hurt people really they can hurt u in a very bad way that no one can imagine then this intentional abuse would stop for all the normal humans leaving in jordan.

boss dont tell me bloggin would solve it no no no bloggin is for intelectualls who cant change a real bad things (sorry bloggers no offence ment) if u want to change things u have to change them physically in a language that these people understand nothing less than that..

peace be upon all who suffers..

Now it is clear why so many hospital staff get beaten up. Your father is lucky to survive this ordeal.

I would add that the people who took your father to the hospital probably were afraid to stick around because our backward laws might implicate them in his accident.

Finally, thank God that things worked out. I hope you go through with the law suit. Salamat.

    7amdella 3ala salameto … inshalla allah beshfeeh o be3afeeh …

i will call my friends back in amman and see what they can do … and i will try the best to be as much help as i can … i will send this to Kamel Nseirat and Yousef Ghieshan …

peace and may Allah be with us on this …

  41. Gravatar Icon 41 Firas

Alf Salameh, this is really outrageous!
    Lousy and careless people!

Your dad had his ID card on him, right? So there is no way the asshole missed his name because it was written differently or something

And YES sue them! You are not suing the government, you are actually making a difference and nothing scary about suing the goverment

The shawerma shop owners are actually suing the minister of health, the kharabsheh dude

  42. Gravatar Icon 42 Isam

7seen do u think you can write an article in arabic too ?? it would make things alot easier to spread the word

  43. Gravatar Icon 43 bakkouz

This is absolutely Horrible! I’m really glad that your father is Doing better and thank god you managed to find him before it was too late (la sama7allah). alf 7amdillah 3ala salamto.

You should definitely sue the hospital! You should take this thing as far and as high up as it can get. This should not pass by lightly. people should be accounted and this shameful and irresponsible hospital should be investigated and somebody should pay for this!

  44. Gravatar Icon 44 Hareega

so sad! Sorry that this tragedy happened to your family. IT did also happen to many many others. Pleeeeease sue them, please do so. I’ll be honest with you, it’s unlikely that you will win (you might though), but if people started sueing hospitals it would be difficult to turn them all away and someone with some consicence will wake up and try to change things.
As I said before the problem is not mainly the lack of money, it’s the lack of ethics and morals. It’s a shame that this happens in our society , the society that’s known for “respecting the elderly”.

  45. Gravatar Icon 45 Maher

    Whaaaaaattt??????
Awal eshe salamtoo 3amoo! o ya rab y2ooom bel salameh!

Man,, if i were you .. you go an beat the hell of of those guys..! they are a disgrace!!!!!!!

  46. Gravatar Icon 46 Alurdunialhurr

First of all,Iam glad your father is in a stable condition.Second, this is not the first time and last time that people such as your father is treated miserably by hospitals, this routine occurrences in Jordanian hospitals, just go the Basheer Hospital in Amman and see how pathetic they treat their patients.
Third, I blame this pathetic incompetent government for what is happening to people.
Fourth,If I were you ,I would sue for physical and mental damages .its the only way out, fight back even if you think you are going to lose against this pathetic government…

  47. Gravatar Icon 47 Nido

ya Allah!! Hamdillah 3ala salamto! Hope he gets better soon and inshallah tinzikir ma tin3ad…
hospitals’ and doctors’ mistakes happen alot in Jordan… One of my cousins diesd cuz of a very stupid mistake done by a doctor…he had to suffer for over 10 years before his death!
    Allah la yiwaffi2hom…heartless people!!

  48. Gravatar Icon 48 7aki Fadi

The minister of health should be fired.

First the shawerma scandal then this new hospital that is supposed to be state of the art.

My uncle who is a civil Engineer who works at the company that was responsible for building it. There were over 40 engineers and architects involved and working on it. He said it is THE BEST hospital , or let me say building because I don’t think it qualifies as a hospital anymore, in the middle east where no expenses were spared in building it.

So you build the greatest hospital and make people pay tax for what??? for a butcher shop!!!! SHAME on this government!

This hospital is the poster child of corruption.

  49. Gravatar Icon 49

Despite my relief that you have found your father, i am horrified at the measures you have taken to get to him, and the unheard of condition you have found him in.
I strongly urge you to not “let this go”, even if it is hard to get your word out there. Your father is lucky to have a family who cares about him so much and were ardent on finding him. I’m sure there are hundreds of people admitted to public hospitals on a daily basis who are not treated any better and yet don’t have the means to do anything about it. The attitudes towards public health need to change, even if it means changing the last incompetent health care provider there is! It is about time for a change. Jordan is much better than this. Good luck!

  50. Gravatar Icon 50 secratea

Oh Hussain, this is really disturbing! elmuhim, 7amdella 3ala salamit elwalid, but you really should take action against that hospital. The most shocking part is them not contacting your family…I can’t believe it!

  51. Gravatar Icon 51 Amal

It is realy a strange and very sad story and i hope your dad become better soon .
Dear…. your story should appear in media (T.V, Radio, news papers) all the people should read this story in order to be careful from this hospital and all the goverment hospitals.
While reading your story the problem at that hospial was not the careless man how was giveing the wrong information without bothering him self to do a job the police and you asked from him,but also with nurses and doctors and directors, they have been given a big reponsebilty but with no moral and mercy feelings.
Inshalla you can do something but in our country if there is (WASTA OR GARABA) for someone it will be diffrenet .
i am sorry for your suffering and do not give up you can sue them all..

  52. Gravatar Icon 52 Jarrad

For every story that’s exposed by an outspoken victim, hundreds go unreported. FUCK THE CORRUPT INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT.

  53. Gravatar Icon 53 Ashamed to be jordanian

that is what i am after reading this story. i have no doubts that what you wrote is accurate and am saying it aloud: IM ASHAMED TO BE A JORDANIAN where such acts go unnoticed and unaccounted for.

dear hussien, your story was very touching and i hope some action will be taken. am so sorry for what u had to go through. i hope ur father gets better soon. dont give up pls. fight for ur right even if it was against the hole government. take care my friend.

DEAR JORDANIAN BLOGGERS: please show your solitude during such times and let us all stand by our brother here who he and his family went through a lot. i assure u,, we can do it,, we can get hussein’s voice heard. i decided to start my own blog just to help highlight such incidents.

  54. Gravatar Icon 54 Ashamed to be jordanian

i forgot to add,,, did His Highness Prince Hamzeh ever think of visiting that hospital and checking what goes on there and the pain people go through in a hospital that carries his name?

I AM 100000% SURE THAT IF HE DID HE WILL IMMEDIATELY ASK FOR HIS NAME TO BE REMOVED FROM IT!!!!!!!!!

  55. Gravatar Icon 55 ISSAM AL-HADID

I will try to get 7DAYS, a local newspaper here with a zest for scandals, to publish your post.

Hussein … 7amdellah 3ala salamet el waled and may he get well soon inshallah

I think that you must write an article in Arabic and don’t just talk to Watan FM, also talk to Al Wakeel and make a big fuss about it … they need to learn that human life is sacred and people working in the most humane profession need to be humans to be able to do it

I am sorry for all what you had to go through :(

I think you should go ahead and sue them, winning might be a long shot who know’s but people will know about it and they will be exposed.

  64. Gravatar Icon 64 ola

This is beyond outrageous!! Everyone should know this, and it should be rubbed right into the face of the government, who are professionals for unacknowledging the elepahnt in the room

  65. Gravatar Icon 65

Hussein, I’m so sorry for your dad, and I hope he’ll get better soon.
As Khalidah said, I think this must be translated to Arabic to reach more people.

  66. Gravatar Icon 66 bambam

7amdillah 3alla salamet 2il waled, now am not sure what would be the best case to go about this but since you are thinking about suing and the people that commented here say that there are similar cases then that just sounds like a class action lawsuit which will carry more strength to all parties plus it will peak the medias curiosity.
thats all i can think of now, and hope your dad has a speedy recovery

  67. Gravatar Icon 67 Who-sane

I really don’t know what to say to all of you great people. The comments you left and the posts some of you have written are just overwhelming.

You proved that our blogosphere is not merely a virtual space, but a solid entity that can achieve something, even if it was to educate and raise awareness of what people with no great financial means should expect from the Jordanian health system.

Thank you again! I’ll try and translate the article to Arabic and I’ll keep you posted on what happens.

  68. Gravatar Icon 68 Sami

Sorry for this story but i do wish that you do proceed with the law and media and don’t let the story go this easy.
I do know a university student who had Meningitis “sa7aya” and he did go to the student’s clinic at the university of jordan 4 times and each time he was diagnosed with cold and given aspirin- though not a doctor, cold is a symptom and not a cause-in the last visit he had a kind of a rash “http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/meningitis.htm” and had all symptoms of the disease and they refused to hosptilize him and instead gave a medicine against alergy. 2 days later, the guy passed away. His parents -and he is the only son- where about to also to take the case to court but ppl didn’t let them which made me mad as i am not related so please proceed with the court even if it will only cause a buzz and nothing else

    El7amdelah 3alasalamat elwaled.

There’s really nothing to say. The story you just told is typical of many Jordanian public hospitals. Bashir is an example of that. Bas el7amdulellah, I’m glad things are getting better and hopefully as the days go on they’ll continue to get better.

spreading the word is a good idea.

  74. Gravatar Icon 74 Marvin the Martian

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your father.

Although I know it is of no help to know this, American hospitals can be far worse. In Los Angeles recently, emergency room doctors ignored a woman who was writhing in pain on the floor and bleeding from the mouth for nearly an hour before she died, despite repeated calls from bystanders to 911. The 911 operators said there was nothing they could do since she was already at the hospital. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19207050/

Bless you for your perseverance in finding your father. Because of you, he is still alive, and he has his family to help him. Your father is truly fortunate to have such a son.

  75. Gravatar Icon 75 Umm Zaid al Ammani

Subhan’Allah. Thank GOD you guys found him and may He reward the patient in the room who had more concern and morals than the “caring staff” and gave him the food and medicine.

SUE THEM. Contact all the newspapers, TV, radio, whoever. This is unacceptable. It should concern all who live in Jordan b/c (la smah’Allah) it could be us or our family next time.

  76. Gravatar Icon 76 Urdoni Grfaan

This is another example of how CHEAP we jordanians are to our government. Honestley I started crying when I heared this story, not because it was something surprising or abnormal, no but because I imagined that this may simply happened to my father or a close person. Our problem as Jordanians is that we bring this all to our selves, we make our selves cheap and so our government see us cheap, when we hear about people dying from shawerma or poisoned water we make NO ACTIONS other than start making fun of that issue and sometimes blame people . We do NOT take it as an insult to each and every one of us , you me and anybody can be the next victem of God knows what issues may happen in Jordan soon. We should all look at our selves in another way , we are not cheap slaves , we are valuable , those 100,000,000 $ payed to build this damn hospital is all from me and you all , its from Husains Father’s works and efforts during his life , its from tax we pay on the air we breath, we should wake up and say JORDAN IS FOR US ALL NOT FOR YOU , WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS , WE DESERVE A BETTER LIFE.

All my best wishes to Abu - Hussien and for hundreds ( or thousands ) of same cases in different places ( hospitals , prisons , schools …. )

  77. Gravatar Icon 77 Alurdunialhurr

Marvin the Martian ,,What is the value of your comment?just because it is happening in LA we should except it in Jordan ,My friend, two wrongs does not make it right.

all i can say 7amdila 3a salamto, hope he retrieves his full strengh. Inshala the case is won, injustice at it’s best, i can’t stop talking.

  89. Gravatar Icon 89 Dana

    First… alhamdallah 3al salamto.
I am saddened to hear of the anguish your family suffered and the neglect that your father endured. If you think the Jordanian court system will not be fair and just, try appealing to an international health agency, such as the World Health Organization. Unfortunately, chances are, your father was not the only victim of these horrific conditions. Perhaps they would be able to help remedy the condtions of the Prince Hamza Hospital if the Jordanian government is turning a blind eye. If they are not able to remedy, at least it will get the attention of your countries’ leaders that there is an outside pressure that will take action.

I wish you luck. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your father and your family.

I am Glad he is ok, I cant believe our government hospitals, I think its time that our voice should be heard, they literally treating human like garbage, I cant believe it, It should be really the opposite, I once went with my friend to Salt government hospital, and I was shocked when I saw nurse wearing a flip flop ! and some were smoking!
God Bless your Father and your Family

First of all, I hope your father is better.

You SHOULD sue them. And you should contact the Diwan with a complaint directly to the King.

Things like that should not be tolerated in any way.

Very sorry to hear about your ordeal.

  109. Gravatar Icon 109 Wazeer

I prey to Allah to help your father to completely recover and be healthy again. I also prey to Allah to help every member in your family to forget these 9 miserable days and never ever face such horror again.

I feel so sad and angry… How some people become worse than wild animals? Become worse than Evil! How can they loose self respect and dignity by being lazy, careless, thieves and rude criminals… Those are the mentally sick people that must be diagnose and treated physically in such hospitals. Those are the criminals that must be put in jails.

Knowing many good people in Jordan, I hope that you will get this story to King Abdullah to help you and the humanity to get rid of these devils.

these ppl need to be sued not even sued they need to get put in jail for what they did, ya3ni for god sake help him treat him it cost them 67 million to build the hospital and they can even help or report a person that came to them weak in pain, how much its gona cost them to help him, how much its gona cost them to just pick up the phone and call the police or try to look for his name in the phone book, or even now they have the phone book online, you want to convince me that a 67 million jd hospital doesn’t have access to internet.

7asbuna alah wa ni3ma il wakeeel

    alah yuw2af ma3kom husian.

This hospital should be closed right away and all its doctors, medical staff, managers etc… should serve time in jail.

I hope the health of your father is getting better now, and I hope the reaction from the Ministry can lead to accountability and be appropriate with the magnitude of suffering your family had to feel the last two weeks.

سؤال موجه لمريض بأمراض ذكرت في المقالة ” a) a brain seizure, b) severe pneumonia, c) kidney malfunction and d) blood infection.”

I am absolutely stunned that things like that can actually happen in real life! It’s 21st century! What is going on with this world and the people that are in there??!!
I am very happy that your dad is survived all this and I hope and pray that he will recover very soon. All my best wishes from my heart to You and your family.
And you MUST sue whoever is responsible.Things like that just cannot be ignored and forgotten.Someone must answer. You wouldn’t even treat an animal like that! So do get to the bottom of this and Don’t listen to anyone who tells you to drop it.If we don’t do anything about it , then the same will happen again and again to other families!
God Bless and get well soon to your Dad x

first of all, i wish all the best to your father and to get well soon..

    DEAR HUSSAIN,
TO BE A REAL JOURNALIST OR AT LEAST TO PUBLISH SUCH A STORY I THINK YOU HAVE TO BE FAIR BY GIVING “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY” ITS SHARE, BEFORE PUBLISHING..

this way, you attacked a whole country, u attacked a system, a government, u encouraged some sick people to raise and “spit” their opinion which is always against the progress of our beloved country..

we are not here to attack people, we are here to improve, for any body wants to fight the government i say “u better leave our country, we love it that way…asshole”…

believe me, i heared that there is an invistigation taking place, an intensive one, every body who made a mistake will be sentenced, trust me…but i am really shocked of the way these people think!! some body wants to burn the hospital !! some want to fight the government !! some discovered that they hate JORDAN !! some of these sick people even created another story!! maybe HAMAS and JUND-EL SHAM will remember to comment some time later on!!!

thank you for such a chaos… you could simply complain to the ministry of health “internal auditing section” or “hospital directory” and trust me, there would be an action…but we hate our country, we want to destroy it in any way !!

i’m sorry for ur father and again all the best.

    For Omar,
Brother, this is not about hating jordan, and who hates jordan will hate it even if this didn’t happen, I see most of these comments as love for jordan, maybe some of them has some hate but you can’t judge. We all love jordan and we want a better jordan, we can’t have a better jordan if we don’t correct the mistakes, we must hold people accountabe for this mistakes, if the system doesn’t work the we make it work…

Isn’t that what the king want us to do? Isn’t that what he does when he visits the basheer hosoital or zarqa hospital? We and the king have the same goals:BETTER JORDAN, and for me and for most of the people that commented here I think that we all want that and will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

God bless Jordan that we will die for.

  126. Gravatar Icon 126 Khalidah

Hussein … this is wonderful news and I am glad that your dad is doing better … may he fully recover very soon …

This cooperation and unanimous objection to an unfair treatment only proves that there is still a lot of good in us and that we do care about each other and about our country

Bless you Hussein and may God help you and your family to pass through this ordeal peacefully

Good good. This is good news indeed. Although i really do hope that the investigation will be taken very seriously and those people behind such a scandal be taken into court and tried, so they would serve and example so that such an incident would never happen again.

I’m glad for you Hussein and I’m glad that your father is doing alright, and I’m glad that the voice of the people was heard.

God bless you and God bless Jordan.

I have to raise my hat with respect and admiration for all the bloggers effort that made this case at least reach a satisfactory ending for my brother hussain ..I have to admit I questioned blogging power before this incident but now I believe in it that it could change some bad issues around us..so to all people who participated bravo and shame on me for not being positive in this like others but I laked the belief thats all so i appologize from u guys.

for the people with negative and bad comment common guys this was not ur circus if u want to play clowns role there is free circus u can join and enjoy

give the guy a break will u? dont be like the ones who cuased the whole issue..have some manners ,ethics for one time in ur life and respect this guy tragedy and circumenstances.

  130. Gravatar Icon 130 bakkouz

    And Mr. Omar;
What in God’s name are you talking about? Are you really in all your right ind questioning our patriotism? We didn’t attack the Government and we didn’t attack the system, and we surely didn’t attack the whole country! This is democracy at its best, and If you call those who are care for their fellow human being and those who are jealous for the reputation of their national institutions and only want the best for the name of Jordan “sick”, then sorry, you really need to re-evaluate your way of thinking.

So please, spare us, you do not love Jordan more than we do, and you are not more patriotic than us, At least we have the courage to stand up and speak and be heard, not only because we care for our fellow man, but also because we care about our beloved country, but it seems you fail to realize that.

If anything this has helped the progress of the country and the process of democracy in it, It was the right thing to do, to get your voice heard and take action in a firm yet peaceful way, We didn’t burn any flags not did we destroy our property, we just made sure those who make the decisions knew that we will not be ignored and when push comes to shove we really are all brothers and indeed as the late King Hussein (May he rest in peace) Said “الانسان أغلى ما نملك”, Thats what it all comes down to.

  131. Gravatar Icon 131 Metgharreb

    TO Omar…

It is very obvious that you are from the government, it is clear from the investigation you heard about and no body else heard about, i would like to tell you a simple thing, and this is also for everybody who is behind you, you can kiss my ass. i think everyone who reads your comment will tell you the same, i am going to make a blog especially; to invite people to ask you to kiss my ass.

  132. Gravatar Icon 132 Palforce

    Salam,

Glad your dad is doing alright elhamdelah.

Whoever feels that this post was negative, let me say that without this post nothing would have been done about this matter.

Sometimes it takes a group effort or loud noisy horn to wake somebody up.

I would also like to mention that with freedom of speech comes responsibility, I don’t have to put anybody down to make my point.

Now the golden question is: your blog brought attention to major mishap, how about those who go through the same thing or worse and don’t Blog?!

Saying all that, I urge all Jordanian Bloggers to Blog about serious issues, again I don’t have to bad mouth anyone to prove my point, that’s irresponsible and immature.

Blogging is a responsibility and a strong tool, and we have to use it the right way.

    God bless,

    Peace

  133. Gravatar Icon 133 Husain's wife

First of all, I’m proud to be your wife…
Second, we were really afraid and worried during that horrible time, God it was the worst, I can’t even find proper words to describe it.
I would like to thank ALL of you who stood by us, you are the true people of Jordan, this is our spirit. And for those of you who made some really ridiculous comments I say just put yourselves in our shoes before you make these comments.
Omar, or who ever you REALLY are, stop this!
Husain, I’m sure things will go just fine, and your dad is lucky to have a son like you.

  134. Gravatar Icon 134 Batir

Good news about the health of Hussein’s father, and potential good news about the investigation. I hope the investigation will reach the root cause of the problem. It is of course about the bad attitudes of the low paid receptionist of nurses, but also the ineffecient management at the higher level.
I was disturbed with the comments left by the so-called omar but I advise you all to neglect him. This particular case of an ordinary Jordanian citizen blogging about a personal incident including bad behaviour by the halthcare system which has triggered attention and prossible accountability is the real example of paqtriotism where we expect nothing less than perfect performance by all Jordanians at their work places. This story should have been published by public media and TV but thankfully we do have the blogsphere to inform us. I am both glad and honored to ahve been given the chance for a modest participation in bringing the case to light, and I thank all our fellow bloggers who have shown genuine human interest and real patriotism.

  135. Gravatar Icon 135 Oriental Arabesque

I’m so glad your dad is getting better and serious action is been taken so such a story won’t happen again

alf el 7amdellah…and i believe everyone should fight for his/her rights..we shouldn’t just keep our mouths shut and say well it happens…if we want to witness serious improvments in our societies we should speak up and work on it…so bravo Hussian..your family and wife have all the right to be proud of u

my regards to ur lovely dad

  136. Gravatar Icon 136 The observer

thanks for the update. That is great news. Hope this incident help changing things in our hospitals and save many souls to come.

  137. Gravatar Icon 137 Dina

    To Omar..
You are in absolutely no place to tell my brother how to be a journalist or even to question his patriotism..
I hope not, but maybe something like that should happen to you, to know what it’s like to have your father missing for nine horrible days and treated worse than an animal and was left to die in a place where he should be treated with all kinds of love and care.

Our country is LOVED by all of us, and by every single Jordanian who commented on this entry.. I think it’s only “Democratic” that they speak their mind and show how sick they’ve become to hear what has happened in OUR beloved country.

You are also in no place to compare us to anybody..
You speak of improvemnt.. This is what my brother is here to do and make sure that some action is taken, so this does not happen to your father, or anybody else’s..

Thank you my brother Husain.. I am so very proud of you.
WE WILL NOT LET THIS GO, WE WILL NOT LET OUR FATHER SUFFER JUST SO YOU CAN BE HAPPY “OMAR”

This “Chaos” shall continue to the end Omar.. If you’re not happy with that, then I am.

I am so sorry to hear about your father, glad he is doing better now!

What is happening to Jordan? Thank you Batir for publishing the story, and the same goes to the bloggers who contributed and offered help.

For everyone who is doubting Hussein’s intentions: Put yourself in his place. It is an extremely personal mantter and he needed to vent out, yet he managed to keep the post professional and unbiased. Blogging is MEDIA. And remember that a better Jordan will not exist if we did not acknowledge its mistakes and fix them.

who the hell is Omar that all of you are replying to, he just doesn’t count…

Who-sane, glad that your father is getting better o enshalla he’ll completely heal soon and quick… hopefully the investigation will result in those who ever was responsible for this horrible thing to get what they deserve. please keep us updated on the results of investigation.

Bless you Hussein, and bless your family. Do whatever it takes to teach whoever caused this ordeal for your family a lesson in duty, morality and ethics. and do not get intimidated by those who consider you a non-patriot. as patriots we want to see our country the best among others, and we can’t achieve that without getting rid of our negativities, and this could not be achieved if we keep our mouths shot. Jordan’s dignity is our dignity, and if we loose ours, then we can’t grant it to our country.

  151. Gravatar Icon 151 Mohanned

    Mr.Real:
Please enlighten us how do you define a real jordanian? Is it a one who agrees with the government always? or is it by the family name?

Maybe you are feeling the heat now, right? watch out not to get burned by the heat, and you are in no position to threaten anyone.

His majesty king abdualla critisizes the government, does that make him not jordanian you stupid punk? The voice will be heared and whoever was responsible will be punished.

Last word, you don’t decide who is jordanian and who is not, because we are more jordanian than you.

    God bless jordan..

Those who hold it in their power to send people to their death…. King…….General…..Judge…… and Doctor. why is a doctor different because they can also save people from certain death, making dozens of life and death decisions every day.

My father is an MD, occasionally he would come home and tell us horror stories of what some doctor did to some patient, and almost always they get away with it. I wonder, is this why we have such a high incidence rate of doctors getting roughed up ? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not condoning it, but I just don’t believe in coincidences. Do doctors make lousy patients because they know what their colleagues are capable of ?

As I see it, this kind of negligence can be caused by one or more of the following:

    1. Lack of funding. (understandable)
    - This is documented since newspapers are still running articles about the strikes Janitors held at the Hospital to protest late and partial salary payments. If they can’t afford to pay the janitors, what about the nurses ?

    2. Poor allocation of funds (mismanagement)
    - Why didn’t the receptionist have a computer ? It isn’t a paperweight damn it.

    3. Misappropriation of funds (Theft, and no I don’t mean the wallet)
    - Don’t know for sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

    4. Incompetent Staff
    - The receptionist from hell

    5. Indifferent Staff
    - No one bothered to call the patient’s family for 9 days ? Change their position, bathe them, give them their medicine ? Was he admitted into a Hospital or a prison ?

Without criticism, there will be no improvement.

In all cases, the last response one would expect would be for the Dr. in charge of the investigation to question the patient’s (errrrr make that victim’s) loyalty or their family’s. That would be in itself an indication of either some guilt, disregard for human life, or simply an unwillingness to evolve. One word comes to mind, lethargy.

In any case, as horrific, and tragic this post is, it is also beautiful. The number of well-wishers. The way everyone tried to band together to do what was in their power, even if it is very little. Yes there still is good in the world. People willing to lend a hand. The shiny beacon of hope to guide us through the dark lonely night.

First of all my heart goes to Husien and his family.
Second the issue here is not who is true Jordanian and who’s not, there was a chain of horrible mistakes made and some one or more should be held accountable, and if you have to go to court do it , make some one pay for his or her mistake, if you can’t afford it I will be the first one to donate money for thit cause, and I’m sure lots of others will, don’t just stand there, we are all tired of these unresponsible, unproffessional, careless people running our institutions and not only risk our lives but rather damage the image of our country and destroy what took us years and lots of money to build.
Make them pay and have faith in the system and if you can go after them with indiviual law suits one by one all those involved then do it, this may take time but I believe its worth the pain it will teach them all a lesson they’ll never forgetgo after them for MALPRACTICE, NEGLIGENCE, among other things.
Friend : we can do it one hospital at a time one institution at a time let them know these facilities belong to the Jordanian people and they ALL work for US and if you make a mistake you will pay for it I don’t care if you are the minister of health.
Our prayers with you and hope no one will ever have to go through an ordeal like this we all love Jordan and we the people of Jordan should make better.

    For so called Real Jordanian

    (4) Things you should do ASAP.

1- Take an intensive English course right away. Learn the English letters again ( a, b, c .. P , B ) ,Then take the TOEFL Exam 10 times.
Do that for 25 years then write a paragraph that decribes how stupid you are ( no more than 200 words ) , and finally you can try to write a post in this blog or any other blog.

    2- Kiss my @**

3- Try to find another way to kiss goverment ass because yout current way is bretty STUPID and WELL KNOWN.

4- Try to beieve that there is something called (INTERNET)as a one world , or if you are in a huury you can say the (NET) , but never say INTER NET because this will let you repeat step 2 for another 10 times.

and as you said , last ADVISE take care of your SILF

    Dear Hussain,
I am so sorry you guys had to go through this. I know how you feel. Some Dr. mistake caused my aunt’s death. She was dead for over a week before the hospital admitted that she was dead. They wanted the money (That was Ibn Al Haytham Hospital).
As for those who are stupid enough to claim they are real Jordanian by supporting a wrong doing, I hope that one day you rot in one of these places and get such treatment.
Dr. Hadidi is supposed to be a fair man and I hope he is in this case. He has no right questioning your patriotism. If you did not care about the country you would not have made an issue.
I will be delighted to help in any way I can.
All the best to your family and I hope your dad regains his health.

Do you know the meaning of jailing a father of three in Ramdan?
3 years for an anonymous comment by someone criticizing a hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.

    From http://www.360east.com/:
“Over the past few days, Jordanian bloggers banded together to get a story of unbelievable negligence at the Prince Hamza Hospital to the light. First online. Then to newspapers and radio. Then to the government.”
A similar story has not got a happy ending in the UAE, as the webmaster, Mohamed Al Shihi has been jailed for an anonymous comment by someone criticizing a hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.
    From http://www.hrinfo.net/en/reports/2007/pr0904-2.shtml

    Emirates: Asly released
    Shouhi’s release hampered down

    Cairo, 4th September, 2007

Ras Kheima criminal court decided to free Mr.Khalid Al-Asly, Majan.net writer and Mr. Rashid Shouhi ,Majan’s boss and to adjourn the court hearing to 10th September, this is the second case triggered by essays written on Majan.net, Mr.Asly is the main suspect while Mr.Shouhi is accused for being the head administrator of the Majan.net yet despite the decision to release Mr.Souhi , Ras Kheima court circuit head judge refused to implement the decision and kept Shouhi behind bars until his next appearance before the court.

Asly was freed after the prosecution failed to produce any evidence to prove that Asly wrote the alleged essay. Asly and Shouhi were released pending trail on 10th September while Shouhi will stand trail before the court of appeals on 9th September to challenge the sentence of one year imprisonment, shutting the website down, a fine and temporary compensation.

The ministry of health and the Ras Kheima medical district launched an investigation into corruption practices taking place in Ras Kheima .HRINFO hopes that this spirit would embrace the current prisoners of conscience or those vulnerable to be prosecuted for covering - in consistency with the right to political criticism- corruption practices”.

please show me you media guys, that you are worth your salt, spread the word to get this decent man back with his family.

It is sad to know that such problems happen in hospitals. Every country has its problems, I think. Even in Canada there are problems at times. My uncle almost died because the staff at the hospital he was in were giving him the wrong medicine (opposite of what he actually needed) and a double dose of another kind that he didn’t need at all. He almost died. Not to mention the fact that he didn’t have a room but was left on a bed in the hallway, with on occasion, beds beside him containing corpses waiting to go to the morgue. It is horrible that these things happen.
I am glad that you found your father and that his condition is improving. You are lucky that your uncle was so insistent and went back. It is great that the problem has been officially recognized and is being corrected (one would hope).
