Welcome to Gay & Lesbian Archive of South Africa
Documentation and archiving human rights history is imperative to maintaining those rights. It is not so much that history repeats itself it is more that we tend to forget our history. GALA’s service preserves the documentation of the South African gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender human rights struggle making it available to the public through myriad ways so the struggles and successes will not be lost.
To that end, you can take part in the preservation of South Africa’s success through financial support of GALA. GALA’s activities focus on maintaining and expanding the archive, facilitating academic research, and conducting community outreach. Through GALA’s ever expanding outreach strategy they are intensifying their rights-based advocacy and general awareness of GLBT rights to the general public.
GALA makes their resources accessible through:
- Community theatre projects
- Video and film productions
- Innovative guided tours
- Traditional archival and photographic exhibitions
GALA has also
- pioneered academic enquiry into sexuality in South Africa.
- provided pertinent source material,
- sponsored unique research projects,
- provided lectures on gender and sexuality studies.
The work of GALA is vital to progress in human rights. Please give today to support GALA’s efforts and GLBT human rights for South Africa.
