As most Mac users know, finding sites that offer online poker for Macs has always been a bit tricky. Even two or three years ago, very few sites offered downloadable software for Macs, and the best option was to play at one of the few poker rooms that provided "no-download" software.

That’s started to change, as more and more sites realize the growing demand for Mac poker. That being said, it's far from universal and the most common option is still no-download software.

Several poker rooms offer good alternatives in this category, and most of them are run on a Java platform. Two of the best, for example, are Pacific Poker and Hollywood Poker, but most of the top recommended sites offer stable and reliable no-download software similar in quality to the full-download versions.

With the growing popularity of Macs, several poker rooms have naturally gone one step further and now offer downloadable software for Mac users. Leading the way are the two biggest poker sites, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, with Full Tilt the first to offer poker for Macs back in early 2006 and PokerStars following shortly thereafter.

If you'd still like to play at poker rooms that don't have Mac-friendly software, you have some other options. You could use a PC emulator - two of the most popular are Virtual PC and iEmulator - which works pretty well, but might slow down your computer a bit. And, with its release of Leopard, the new version of OS X, Apple also released Boot Camp - software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP along with Mac OS.

Whichever route you choose, there are now many more ways to play online poker using your Mac. The best way to get started? Checking out the poker rooms in our toplist above and taking advantage of our world-best sign-up bonuses.
