INTRODUCTION TO THE DUNIA ENGINE

Tuesday August 14th

The gameplay and technology of the Far Cry brand go hand in hand, so it’s no wonder that questions have been asked about our engine. We snagged Alex Amancio right before lunchtime to give you some details.

1000s of fully physicalised trees?

In DX9?
With a High end single core PC?

Would be nice to see the engine specs and to learn of how this is achieved. (wrt view distances and LODs not to mention poly counts...)

Are you utilising a Physics Processor?

Nice teaser...

Sounds amazing. What is the name of this new engine?
Posted by fabulouscoops, 2007-08-14 18:56:17
In regards to the engine name, we would have liked to announce it with this video but we're just waiting on a couple of things to confirm. It should be very shortly though. :)

Ouch, the injury looked very lifelike - what happened to this guy? It looked a bit as if some lions faster than he was! :D

I love the tree animation in the background, but actually expected to see examples of the effects Alex was talking about (dynamic clouds, dynamic day-night cycle, fire and weather effects etc.)! :)

Damn....I need some coffee! :D

Wow, sounds like your environments are gonna be beautifully populated. I've yet to see truly dynamic wind pulled off in a game. You guys rock, this game sounds almost too good to be true.

Brilliant guys!!

Sounds great..

Keep up the good work and blog updates, they are really nice to see!

;)

So is the physics system your own or is it third party like Havok or Ageia? Also since fires and trees and dynamic does that mean that a player can set off huge forrest fires that burn many square km?

Yeah this is looking really good, they possibly dont want to show too much right now to build anticipation or the technology is not ready to be viewed by the public yet, the game still has a way to go to its slated release...

nice keep up the good work i want to see more
Posted by ZukeNaza, 2007-08-17 03:03:52
Will there be pilotable helicopters? I hope so. I would also like to see big Baobab trees, Mangrove swamps, Elephant grass (ideal for stealth play), Huge sand dunes, and thick jungles incl. Mosquitoes, Crocs and Hippos basking at the river beds. I saw the Mercs tie their shoe laces in FC, but what were they tapping their necks against, mosquitoes? Looking forward to FC2.

Thank you very much starting this blog!
I still love "Far Cry" and cannot wait for its sequel now. Thank you for all the background info!
I cannot wait to see you at the "Games Convention" this weekend! When will you hold the presentations that were announced at www.ubisoft.de/bv/presse/meldungen/2007-08-14-107963/?
Anyway, thank you very much in advance for making the trip!!!

Hi TheHade, I can't say for sure on this because it's written in German, but this might be the presentations times... check out the picture.

Thanx a lot for your prompt and helpful reply, kimi_!!! I appreciate it!
Man, I'm so psyched for this event! "Far Cry 2" - wow!!!
By the way, being a narrow-minded PC gamer ;-) I love the fact there won't be console versions of the game.
Hey, is it true there won't be no HUD at all in the game, either?
If so, I'd love to know why you guys chose to go that unique way, please. Maybe you can talk about that in a future blog entry.

Jambo vaheri, FC Team! (I hope I spelled that correct)! :)
Posted by SC_SamFisher, 2007-08-23 15:01:49
This game looks freakin excellent. I like the fact its not going the quasi futuristic route of Crysis.....keep it real with real weapons, just like STALKER!

Great looking game, but MP needs to incorporate auto downloading of maps. Custom maps should have the feature where maps are auto downloaded as soon as a player enters the game (as in COD series).

Awesome engine! Why name it Dunia?
Posted by mikec1970, 2007-09-19 09:16:53
It looks like, and sounds like it is going to blow the Cryengine2 into flames.
Looks awsome, I can't wait for the release. Will there be a demo anytime soon??

Its pretty funny you guys called it the 'dunia' engine, because dunia means 'world' in indonesian and a few other languages
