Preston were too strong for Wolves

Preston stunned Wolves at Molineux as Nottingham Forest triumphed in their six-pointer with struggling Charlton.

With the fixture list in England hit hard by the weather, four of Saturday's Championship games were postponed because of the freezing conditions.

Former Wolves forward Stephen Elliott returned to haunt his former club with two goals for Preston as Mick McCarthy's men suffered only their second home defeat of the season.

Charlton are now seven points adrift of safety after Nottingham Forest extended the Addicks' dismal run without a league win to 17 games thanks to two goals in three minutes before the break from Nathan Tyson and Rob Earnshaw.

Southampton secured a vital victory in their battle to beat the drop with David McGoldrick heading home the only goal of the game at Barnsley 14 minutes from time, although they remain in the drop zone.

Norwich are only out of the relegation places on goal difference after Darius Henderson's early goal at Bramall Lane consolidated Sheffield United's position in the play-off pack.

Jason Scotland scored twice as Swansea ended their run of eight successive draws with a 2-0 triumph over Burnley, who had defender Mike Duff dismissed before the interval.

Dexter Blackstock spared QPR's blushes as he grabbed a late equaliser to deny 10-man Coventry all three points at Loftus Road. The visitors saw Stephen Wright dismissed in the first half before free-kick specialist Danny Fox gave them the lead.

Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday had to settle for a share of the spoils at Portman Road as Pablo Counago cancelled out Steve Watson's 52nd-minute opener for the Owls.
