ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING


Under the direction of the Controller, this position in the Office of Business and Finance is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the University's financial statements and coordination of the related financial statement audit. Also coordination, completion and filing of regulatory items including but not limited to Federal 990 and 990T tax returns. The Assistant Controller for Financial Reporting is also responsible for performing the University's fixed asset and construction project accounting and assisting in construction project management.


Essential Job Duties: Audit and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts, review binders supporting documents and related lead sheets in preparation of the annual audit. Prepare the University's financial statements in accordance with principles generally accepted in the US in coordination with the external auditors. Coordinate the University's annual NCAA Agreed Upon Procedures (AUP) engagement between the Office of Business and Finance, the Athletic Department, and the external accountants. Assign and review the reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts. Prepare the annual IRS Form 990 Not-for-Profit information return. Analyze and approve property tax billings for payment and file tax exemptions as necessary. Review and approve inter-department, intra fund, and inter fund transfers. Approve construction PO's, review and approve construction invoices for payment. Prepare or review construction tracking worksheets and review results with project managers. Analyze funding and expenditures on construction accounts to insure proper release of restricted monies and proper funding of loan and operating fund transfers. Analyze yearly asset expenditures for proper capitalization to the Balance Sheet, including the annual Asset Retirement Obligation accrual update. Prepare standard and Ad Hoc reports for Board of Trustee meetings as needed. Prepare year end audit schedules and respond to audit inquiries as needed. Supervise office staff, student intern and student assistants, as assigned. Perform other duties, as assigned, to meet the operating needs of the Business & Finance Office.


Requirements:A bachelor's degree in Accounting or master's degree in accounting or closely related field is required; at least seven years of progressively responsible work experience in a fast-paced general accounting office; extensive understanding of US GAAP. A CPA designation is preferred and may substitute for up to two years of the experience requirement. A highly developed attention to detail is required, as are excellent analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills, and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people, with clear oral and written communication. Expertise with Microsoft Excel is essential. Banner systems experience is preferred but comparable main frame experience may be substituted. Ability to work in a standard office environment. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 15pounds.
