Larry Johnson staying with PSU

Posted by DAVID JONES, Of The Patriot-News January 15, 2009 15:25PM

Larry Johnson
PSU football's prime recruiter and one of its best teaching assistants has, after a lengthy and serious flirtation with Illinois, decided to stay at Penn State, according to dependable sources within the university.

Larry Johnson, who has recruited 11 of the 23 commitments on Penn State's docket for signing letters of intent next month, has spurned a lucrative offer from Ron Zook and decided Penn State is where he belongs.

Best news of the day!

FREAKING GREAT!...Hopefully this will keep Evans here now too?

Best news os the New year! I think Evans is a goner. He seems to want nothing to do with PSU. He says he would even consider the CFL if the NFL spurns him.

Best news I've heard in a while. Coach Johnson is the most valuable coach on that staff.

Thank You L.J.Sr. Terrific news for the Penn State players and the Penn State Nation. He is a Great DLine coach and recruiter. He will be named DCoordinator or Head Coach when the "Best Coach Ever" retires. Hall and Bradley have a lot of work to do on their game plan imaginations. Their Rose bowl plans were uninspired almost to the point of conservative insanity. I am sure David Jones is upset L.J.Sr is staying.I heard that Jones is going to leave the News and become a fact checker for Womans world magazine. Best of luck to you Shirley Jones.

lol @ bobdiz...it's "COG", dude...

(All in good fun, I'm THRILLED that he's staying as well)

That is the best news I have seen in a while....BUT the picture above is not good news...it seemed to show defensive plays...I was able to save a copy of the pictures and make changes using my photo editing software which allowed me to see what was on the chart.

The coaches should be more careful with this kind of materials....

Oh God is good. He will be a great D-Coord once Tommy is HC. Or vice versa. This is terrific. Illinois sucks haha.

Posted by NITWITPSU on 01/15/09 at 6:48PM

Now it's official...next HC will be from within...no problem with that...the core will be in place...and yes, like it or not, this will include Jaypa when Joepa steps aside.Hopefully Vanderlinden will stay too. I'm pretty sure Hall and Anderson will hang'em up with Joepa...

Thank goodness.

Hope this sends a message to JoePa. We LOVE you, but eventually your staf WILL get picked apart by the competition if you do not step aside at some point. Bradley and LJ could have the HC jobs at a half dozen B10 programs simply by asking. They will not wait forever.

We need a stated plan for the future if this staff is to stay together.

JoePA and Penn State will take care of him...he knows it- he is part of the family!

so uh .....

did they give the man more money?

i hope so

Good news for PSU bad decision for him. If he's going to become HC at PSU it wouldn't matter if he was on the staff or on a different staff. When the time comes to name a new head coach do you really want them to limit the field to just three guys with one of them being Jr.?
