My syndicated column today puts the screws on Clintonite Carol Browner, rumored to be Obama’s choice for energy czar. She’s not so fresh and so clean. And conservatives should raise their voices for, you know, real change.

Yet another Clintonite has been wheeled out of the political morgue to serve in the Obama administration. Carol Browner, a neon green radical who headed the Environmental Protection Agency from 1993-2000, is widely rumored to be the president-elect’s choice for “energy czar.” But an ethical cloud still hangs over Browner’s EPA legacy. It doesn’t take a team of Ivy League-degreed lawyers to figure out that this is one more headache the Hope and Change crew doesn’t need.
In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, let me dust off the cobwebs and help out all the smarty-pants vetters on the Obama team with a little background on Browner’s stained past:
On her last day in office, nearly eight years ago, Browner oversaw the destruction of agency computer files in brazen violation of a federal judge’s order requiring the agency to preserve its records. This from a public official who bragged about her tenure: “One of the things I’m the proudest of at EPA is the work we’ve done to expand the public’s right to know.”
Asked to explain her track-covering actions, the savvy career lawyer Browner played dumb. Figuratively batting her eyelashes, she claimed she had no clue about a court injunction signed by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth on the same day she commanded an underling to wipe her hard drives clean. Golly gee willikers, how could that have slipped by her?
According to testimony in a freedom of information lawsuit filed against EPA by the Landmark Legal Foundation, a Virginia-based conservative legal watchdog group, Browner commanded a computer technician on Jan. 19, 2001: “‘I would like my files deleted. I want you to delete my files.” Not coincidentally, the Landmark Legal Foundation had been pressing Browner to fully and publicly disclose the names of any special interest groups that may have influenced her wave of last-minute regulatory actions. Two days before she told her technician to purge all her records, EPA had gone to court to file a motion opposing the federal court injunction protecting those government documents.
Plausible deniability? Not bloody likely.
Incredibly, Browner asserted that there was no work-related material on her work computer. She explained she was merely cleaning the hard drive of computer games she had downloaded for her son, and that she wanted to expunge the hard drive as a “courtesy” to the incoming Bush administration. How thoughtful. Later, her agency admitted that three other top EPA officials had their computers erased despite the federal court order and ongoing FOIA case (the record is silent on whether Browner’s son was playing games on their desktops, too). A further belated admission revealed that the agency had failed to search Browner’s office for public documents as required by Landmark’s public disclosure lawsuit.
Not only were all the top officials’ hard drives cleared and reformatted, but e-mail backup tapes were erased and reused in violation of records preservation practices.
After a two-year legal battle, Judge Lamberth finally held the EPA in contempt of court for the systemic file destruction – actions Lambert lambasted as “contumacious conduct” (obstinate resistance to authority). As is typical in Washington, Browner weaseled out of any serious repercussions. Lamberth inexplicably decided that slapping the agency as a whole with contempt – rather than any individual – would deter future cover-ups.
Is this a gamble the Obama administration wants to take? Browner has crossed the line and violated public trust before in her capacity as eco-chief. Early in her first term as EPA head, Browner got caught by a congressional subcommittee using taxpayer funds to create and send out illegal lobbying material to over 100 grassroots environmental lobbying organizations. Browner exploited her office to orchestrate a political campaign by left-wing groups, who turned around and attacked Republican lawmakers for supporting regulatory reform. These are the very same groups – anti-business, anti-sound science, pro-eco-hysteria – that Browner would be working arm in arm with as Obama’s “energy czar.”
This is regression we can’t afford.

Using the words crooked, Democrat, and Clintonite are a triple redundancy.
But you see, if you have no ethics, you can never have an ethics violation…
People who believe there are accepted standards of behavior and who believe in concepts like duty, honor and truth will always be at a disadvantage when they are up against the unprincipled. Conservatives and the right must understand that the left has no rules by which they play in any arena. Unless you call lying, cheating and stealing rules.
More Illinois politics, it looks like. There is much truth in the phrase, “change you can believe in.” Change for the worst, and the changes are happening faster and faster. Not much chance of things changing for the better under this administration, is there? (Rhetorical question)

So blatantly unethical. But you see no outrage from the MSM. You hear no hard hitting questions.
If Obama signed Manson up for his cabinet none of them would blink an eye. The scam of “change” being worked by the Dems and the media is insulting to anyone with a brain.
Well maybe getting a Clinton goverment back is the change they wanted? Alot of fools think Clinton was a good president. He wasn’t, we might have had no wars but that was because Clinton’s budget cuts to the military cut the legs from under us and left us with a force that has problems compleating its missions currently. His education plans allowed liberals a foot hold, his anti gun positions brought about the highest rise in crime (with said illegal weapons) seen since the 1930’s.
His stance on buisness DID bring a wealth of trading partners, however with the WTO and doing away with terrifs, it was a lie. Only high inflation rate kept the wool pulled over the commoners eyes. In fact shortly into this our factories closed left and right and we recive substandard products and nearly outragous prices do to capitialistic corruption from retailers.
But hey the people didn’t have to fight or think, so may the O is what they need.
If I were in Congress, I’d oppose her confirmation simply due to that smirk on her face in the above photo. It almost begs to be captioned…….

Horrible as it is why did not the Bush Justice Department take action? Why? Because President Bush spent 8 years trying to deal with people who had no interest in trying to deal with him on a fair bases.

I can’t quite figure out what it is that you are trying to say with this article. What is it you are saying this woman is covering up? That a government employee would have no work related files on their computer after eight years on the job is not a surprise to me.
Now we know her qualifications.
First, just a bit of historical trivia for those of us who are buffs on useless information. Want to know where the phrase “contumacious conduct” comes from? Judge Royce Lamberth did not invent the phrase. It was used in the impeachment of Andrew Johnson. If you read the articles of impeachment, I think you will find the language “contumacious conduct”.
Second, what was Carol Browner doing downloading games off the internet on a government computer? Isn’t she supposed to be using her government computer for strictly government work?
Third, I guess in the world of Obama, “change” means bring back the Clinton administration. This means that Janet Reno and Warren Christopher can’t be far behind, if they can be taken out of mothballs.
None of this is surprising. Obama’s corrupt roots in Chicago, as we see with his relationship to Blago-Scam, is par for the Obama course.
His presidiency won’t be about doing what’s best for our country, it will be about doing what’s best for him and his cronies.

Michelle- Thanks for writing this. Browner, a Gore crony, was a horribile administrator. Her cover up caused Judge Lamberth to order that all EPA computer hard drives be archived and preserved for 4 years, even every student intern. This caused huge headaches and costs, while Browner slinked away.to do some lobbying with Madeline Albright.
Other appealling Browner traits: She refused to drink tap water, not a good thing when you are in charge of Safe Drinking Water, and she routinely sent staffers ahead to sanatize restrooms before her royal rear end took a seat.

The argument in favor of adding all the former Clintonistas to the administration of Barack Obama doesn’t hold water, for a “newcomer” trying to bring “hope and change” to the country.
He comes to Washington from one of the most corrupt areas of the country, and he is naming appointees from another inept/corrupt administration to be his advisors? He obviously feels comfortable around that kind of influence.
I fail to understand why no “real” fresh faces can’t be found in the Democrat pyramid, looking from “the ground up!” That concept is used in the “spread the wealth” propaganda as a good thing, but it is apparently not extended to the political arena. If you haven’t paid your dues, politically, you will not get advanced over all the “old” footsoldiers, to a position of promenence.
So, why name people from a former troubled administration, to be in your own cabinet? Maybe because Obama is going to be a P.O.T.U.S.I.N.O? My earlier conjecture, theorizing that Obama was getting support for the Presidency from the DNC, with no real experience or track record, was because the politicos in the DNC believed they could control him, once in office. Yes, I suggested that Obama would be a marionette!
Perhaps a new Obama theme song…”I’m Your Puppet” is in order?
I pass by the EPA office at Ft Meade every day on my way to work. They have a huge parking lot that normally is only 1/3 full. The only times I have seen it 2/3 full is when VIPs are due to visit.
Anyone who destroys hard drives in defiance of a court order is not the kind of person “…who gets into politics for public service,” as Obama recently opined in another political controversy.
Be sure to include Jamie Gorlic (another moron) with Clintonite Carol Browner, when the firing squad convenes!!

This potential apppointment makes complete sense.
The whole energy economy (green energy) that obama plans to “invest” in, will be nothing less than political patronage, picking “winners”, and the willingness to cut backroom deals.
From the sound of it, she is just the misguided, power-hungry, and arrogant lawyer they’re looking for.
I’m sorry to hear about this one.
I haven’t hated any of the picks yet, you do need to get people who know how to “get things done”, even things I hate.
That said, this woman is bad news for moving forward with energy independence. She’s a clueless lawyer.
And I sure as heck wouldn’t want to be the incoming EPA chief with Browner hanging around.
Rumours here in NJ, by the way (and I have a neighbor who is connected to the environmental engineering community) that NJ’s Lisa Jackson will get the nod for EPA. The word is that she’s done nothing but screw up the NJDEP during her tenure.
I ran into women (girls then) like this while teaching school. I asked one, “where did you learn to lie like that?” Women are some of the best liars because of the double standard. They are past masters at dramatics. I caught just a few red handed.

So another Clintonite who was in the inner circle of the highly educated and intelligent pretty people, mostly lawyers, who did not have knowledge of a judge’s ruling, or remember simple details. I thought that ignorance (even of the law) was not a valid legal excuse! Naaaahhhh, nothing makes me suspicious here.

That’s a name brings back memories.
When she was first tapped for the EPA, I was consulting with a small but wildly innovative company in the Atlanta area. One of of the attorneys for that company was THE big deal in Florida politics and had more or less gotten her into the Clinton Administration as head of the EPA. The company I was working with had invented a fantastic way to rid the USA of our landfills … by creating a ‘landfill in a box’.
In short, we could make pure compost out of anything but batteries and nuclear-related materials in less than 24 hours. 50,000 sqft tilt up concrete building, sorting line, hammermills, retort cooker and genetically tailored microbial agents and shazzam, out came nutrient rich soil. No More Land Fills.
This attorney arranged for Browner to visit our test facility, and when she arrived she gushed and oohed and aaahed and promised immediate attention by the Clinton Admin. and the support of the EPA. Got on her jet and waved kisses at us.
And we never heard boo from her again, and in fact all sorts of federal types began to pick us apart over innumerable bureaucratic details and state and federal financial types began looking into our backers and in short … something ran that company down the road and out of business.
I can’t swear it was Browner, but we were tearing it up until Browner visited us. And the USA still has landfills and garbage problems and the technology languishes.

This might be the first time you actually have the goods on a Democrat. However, the NYTimes article you link to only quotes a conservative Republican saying she’s dirty. It doesn’t given any evidence.

So, I suppose that the conspicuous “suicides” (cough cough deaths) of certain Clinton acquaintances should be ignored because it was a Dem presidency. Yet, Pres. Bush being scapegoated for things that were also done during Clinton’s presidency (firing federal prosecutors and believing erroneous intelligence) that’s a crime for sure!
