Norwich City striker Jamie Cureton has revealed he was among a number of players that urged the club's board to appoint Bryan Gunn as the new manager.

Cureton told BBC Radio Norfolk the team were convinced that Gunn deserved the job after their 4-0 win over Barnsley.

"The result was very good, everyone was on a high, the chairman came in as he always does and a few of the boys threw it [the idea] around.

"I don't know if that's got him the job, but if it has then fair play."

Cureton believes Gunn's appointment will create a feel-good factor around the club as they fight to pull away from the Championship relegation zone.

"Everyone seemed to think we had lost the fans' side of it, the family side of it.

"I think everyone wanted people to come in who had a big connection with the club, so I think it will work," he said.

Gunn was appointed manager of Norwich City until the end of the season on Wednesday, with former City midfielder Ian Crook becoming first-team coach and former Norwich striker and manager John Deehan becoming head scout.

Canaries' chairman Roger Munby revealed how the players had let him know who they wanted as manager after Saturday's 4-0 win at Carrow Road.

"I was in the changing room on Saturday after the match, being dragged by Darel Russell into the shower room, and being told in no uncertain terms that the players would very much like Bryan Gunn to be their new manager," he said.
