Bao Quach replaces Mark Hominick at "Affliction: Day of Reckoning"

Bao Quach (15-8-1), an EliteXC veteran who's won his past nine fights, has been chosen as a replacement for Mark Hominick, who was recently forced off the Jan. 24 "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" card due to pneumonia.

Quach meets IFL veteran L.C. Davis (12-1) on the night's preliminary card, which airs live on HDNet.

The website for No Limits MMA, a gym where Quach trains (as do others such as Jared Rollins and Rob Emerson), recently posted news of the fighter's involvement with the event.

Affliction Entertainment formally announced on Monday that Hominick's illness had forced him out of the event, which takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. A main card featuring WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski airs on pay per view.

Tom Atencio told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Monday that a replacement had been secured but bout agreements needed to be signed before the official announcement could be made.

Quach, 29, has fought for a variety of organizations during his eight-year career, including King of the Cage, the WEC, Shooto and ICON Sport. He began his career with a 6-8-1 record, but since November 2006, he is 9-0, which included wins over UFC veteran Douglas Evans and Bobby McMaster in EliteXC's "ShoXC" series. In his most recent fight, he scored a decision victory over Mark Oshiro to win the ICON 140-pound North American belt.

Davis is a former IFL fighter who's posted 11 stoppages in his 12 pro wins. The Team Miletich fighter last competed at December's Adrenaline MMA event, where he defeated Billy Kidd via first-round submission.

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:15 pm ET
Me too...that has to be Vere's little brother!

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:31 pm ET
i just hear forest is out all of 2009 with a broken hand! and Randy is out till July wih an elbow!!! Why God Why!!!

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:41 pm ET
Only half of '09 dude.  He will be back in time for UFC 100.  or is it 101?

LAS on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:16 pm ET
Wow, so we'll only have to wait until June to see Forrest chug out a 3-round decision with Stephan Bonnar or whoever he gets for his build-up fight?  Can't wait for that one.

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:02 pm ET
Basically yeah!  He just got done with surgery and heard it takes 2-3 months to heal.  So another 3-4 months to train and he is back in action around June/July.  And no...no more Bonnar rematch man.  Its gettin old.  Rampage is good. Or Rua or Tiago Silva!

kenjkun on Jan 14, 2009 at 11:25 am ET
try to lay it on thicker next time.  i don't think you're point is getting through.

fmf58 on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:16 pm ET
Yeah I was thinking the same thing he does look like Vera. This should be a war!!

MadDogVenom on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:24 pm ET
They tried to get Vera but his cut down to 45 wasn't going too well...

Krusty22 on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:17 pm ET
Wow that story has NOTHING to do with Brandon Vera!

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:00 pm ET
Not a bad late minute replacement. Not bad at all.

I have seen Bao a few times and he is a strong, quality fighter. This should be a scrap.

Iainkelt on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:02 pm ET
Agreed. I think this is a very solid last minute choice. It is also cool to see that his opponent Davis fights out of Miletich's camp. They might not be quite the belt factory they were a couple years ago but they definitely turn out some very solid fighters.

MMASupreme on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:24 pm ET

Bao Quach is a GREAT replacement who is exciting and has won 9 straight fights.

All the hard cores love this match up. Good job Affliction.

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:29 pm ET
Yeah, remember...all the HARD CORE....lol

serbianmma on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:10 pm ET
affliction keeps getting more stacked!

cant wait!

linton2006 on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:14 pm ET
How do you begin a career with a 6-8-1 record???  I thought you began with a clean slate at least you do in our neck of the woods...

I was for Hominick originally but now I'll just watch for finish...

Still watching Affliction and I hope everyone else does...more MMA for us junkies...

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:17 pm ET

MikeJJ on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:21 pm ET
true... but one can only throw as much shows as t-shirts get sold ;)

linton2006 on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:37 pm ET
throw some jeans into the mix and may be we will get some more shows this year...time are tough but you still have to look good for the ladies...

fmf58 on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:49 pm ET
Better than nuttin honey

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:47 pm ET

Yeah, Bao had a few losses when he first started his career but..

Of those losses, 4 of the last 5 of them have come to names like Waggney Fabiano, Rumina Sato, Jeff Curran and Richard Crukilton.

Those are some damn good fighters! Not much shame in losing early in your career to them. And like we all know from the article, since then Bao has ripped off 9 straight wins.

His fight vs LC Davis should be great!

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 3:45 pm ET
So is this T-shirt selling thing still SELLING strong?  Anybody still buying to support Affliction?  My bro probably has like 5.  Freakin expensive for a t-shirt, don't you think?  I rather just get NIKE brand. They last longer(talkin about the name)

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:00 pm ET
I own one pair of affliction jeans. Had to add in it was only one pair so I don't get bashed too much! :)

But, honestly they are the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn. I don't care if jeans are cheap as hell or expensive. I am will to pay whatever for the comfort. I'm sitting on my computer for hours after hours a day and it's all about the comfort for me. I probally should just start wearing jogging pants!

:)

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:10 pm ET
Are you ur own boss or someting?  U work from home?  Man, i'll be in my boxer/sweat pant if i work from home.  lol
What do you do to gain so much time on Junkie, Corey?  I am jealous!

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:18 pm ET
Normally I wouldn't answer since but I like talking with ya!

Nah, I'm not my own boss. That's my goal down the road which is why I work so much right now. I am an on-call translator which is very few hours/sometimes not at all but much of it is from home/internet/phone. And then my other job/ main job is almost always from home answering emails and writing headlines and whatnot. Sometimes I have to drive to other cities to interivew people but yeah.  Won't say the industry because it's laughable!! Basically, I'm on the net 14-18 hours a day! I'm always waiting for emails and whatnot so I really can't leave the house so I just jump on junkie instead of watching tv..

I think I'm quitting working pretty soon to go back to school though.

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:27 pm ET
LOL...glad u not hating me after all the cuzzin I laid down on Junkie. How u like talkin to me?  Is it cuz I am always right?  LOL
So, basically it is kinda like you r ur own boss?  Man, u one lucky mofo.  I would love to work my hours at any given time/day.  Props...no wonder you have MMA in back of ur head!

School?  U saying u illiterate outside of MMA?  C'mon man, don't tell me u still young?  lol
Wats the point of going back to school in your 50s, 60s? It's like donating your money to the colleges at that point.

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:36 pm ET
You just post a lot and your fun to debate with. It's not even a matter if anyone is right or wrong just fun I suppose.

I suppose you could say I don't really have a boss for the most part. I mean I work alone but I still have a schedule that I have to follow but not like your regular 9-5 ..or 8 hour shift..or whatever you want to call it. So yes, I cheat that is how I know so much about mma on certain things! :)

Heh. I'm not illiterate but would like to go back to school again. Go for something different. I'm really young actually, I'm not even 30!

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:43 pm ET
Cool.  When you do quit.  Do remember me.  I am waiting to fill your open position! lol

Well consider your age, yeah, go back to school man.  Still young.  Don't let MMA overcome your life.
There's alot of things to learn.

Damn, gotta do my work!

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:48 pm ET
Gotcha! I'll remember ya! It's actually my bday in like 5 days I'll finally be turning only 24. I think I'm one of the more younger posters on here.

I'll still be addicted to MMA(going to try getting back into major training as well) since I am hopefully going to school 90% of time online from home! You guys can't get rid of me that easily! :)

Get to work slacker!!

kenjkun on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:30 pm ET
sounds like you could use a PDA.

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:33 pm ET
:)

I have one but would much rather do work on a computer than be outside of my house doing some work on a phone!

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:32 pm ET
Speaking of Affliction clothing (and how much it kicks ass)...

The new 'Day of reckoning' shirt is super sweet! It's red and black and says Fedor vs Arlovski on it.

My buddy got one and was telling me about the deals affliction has going on right now at The Buckle to get one. You can either...

A. Spend $100 and the shirt for FREE.

B. Spend $50 and get the shirt for $10.

C. Buy the shirt alone for $35.

Those all sound good to me! I will probably just get the shirt by itself...but 2 Affliction shirts for $60 is pretty tempting also.

Damn, if only I was made of money...But I have the 'Banned' shirt...I have to get this one too.

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:38 pm ET
Tell em'!

I was reading something about Arlovski even before he went to Affliction saying how he liked the t-shirts! I always assume it was more so just the fighters wearing it because they are promoting Affliction and getting paid for it only.

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:38 pm ET
Shit, $60?  Man how about saving that for AFFLICTION 3?  Question, do you guys actually wear the clothes? or just for the hype of things? I mean poster them up in your room like a pic frame?

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:50 pm ET
I currently have 5 Affliction shirts and I sport them all the time.

3 - Extreme Coutures
1 - 'Banned'
1 - Regular Affliction Tee

The only reason I have them though is because Christine (Mystikhands) bought them for me. I never shop for clothes...and I do mean never. She has good taste though. And she has herself a pretty nice selection of Sinful tees I might add. I'm not sure but I think Sinful is Affliction's ladys line. I'm not too up on these things.

linton2006 on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:44 pm ET
Nick,

Don't forget to enter the  DOR sweepstakes...you could be made of some money...if you win...or could be going to the event in your DOR shirt...

And for those guys who accused me of being Nick Havok under another name...it's all good...thanks for the compliment...

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:53 pm ET
And thank you for the compliment!

...But I wasn't even aware of a DOR sweepstakes. I just might enter to win.

Man, you guys would really hate me if I won that thing!

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:43 pm ET
do you ever stop posting about those jean??? jk!

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:45 pm ET
Haha! You're right I did bring it up on like 3 seperate posts but it's normally cause people bash them without even trying them on or anything. I don't think I just brought it up out of the blue. People just look at price and then know Tom owns the company and see it as laughable!

No more jeans talk from me! :)

NickHavok on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:56 pm ET
Dude, I know how much those jeans cost.

And trust me, if I owned a pair I would make sure the whole world knew too :)

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:18 pm ET
i own 8 pair on 7 jeans...i know cool jeans are cool but really...every post..jk...but i do have that many 7

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:01 pm ET
Forgot to answer your question! Affliction did 150 million in clothing revenue this year in a poor economy so they are still very strong in that market. MMA not so much!

eddyr2ofanaheim on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:46 pm ET
But what was their P&L?

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:51 pm ET
I'm not exactly sure to be honest. If you consider just clothing and accesory sales they had one of their best years in terms of retail profit. But, if you ad in all the money they are losing from promotions, you have to wonder how much of a loss they taking out of those profits.

Good question..

JP on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:08 pm ET
I used to be in the retail business and managed an shoe and clothing store for a few years and just want to let you know that Nike is very low quality crap as a general rule, especially thier footwear. You wouldn't beleive the amount of defective products that were constantly being brought back for exchanges due to bad stitching or soles falling right off the shoes in a matter of a week or two. It's not like I cared though because Nike would in turn give us a full credit for everything and would pay the freight to send it back to them too. Mainly it is caused from the sweat houses that they have manufacturing all thier products. If you are not a fan of slave labor then Nike isn't for you.

JustMe on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:15 pm ET
Is that right?  No wonder some of mine feels IRREGULAR.  So u saying AFFICTIONs clothing are legit and comfortable that is why they so expensive.
Man, I have a NIKE binni, hat, sox, shoe, shirt, sweat pants, underwear, etc.  Reason I buy it is cuz they legit in the NAME itself and it ain't goin anywhere in the long run.  If TIGERS wears it...i know its hot commodity!

JP on Jan 14, 2009 at 9:09 am ET
That's exactly why they have a guy like Tiger endorse thier products. As far as Affliction clothing goes I can't relly comment on the quality of it as it was not around when I was in the retail business and I do not own any so I can't speak of the comfort or durability of it. From what I gather from people it is at least comfortable. I can tell you that with a comany like Abercrombie and Fitch that you are overpaying for a brand name. The durability of thier clothing is terrible. The shirts are paper thin and have bad stitching. I don;t know if Afflcition is comparable to them in any wau besides price, but often times clothes you buy at Wal-Mart will actually last you longer than brand names, you just won't look as cool. I am not an image driven person so I just wear whatever I have that is the cleanest. If it's a little questionable, well that is what febreeze is for. LOL

pHaTaSs on Jan 13, 2009 at 4:03 pm ET
I was looking forward to Hominick, but I am pretty happy with Quach as a replacement.  Should be a good fight.

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:15 pm ET
I respect all of you posters...Havok,Coreymb,just me etc...But holy sh!t, after reading all these posts I thought I was on fashionjunkie.com!No disrespect I mean enjoy reading most of your posts lol....

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:16 pm ET
I enjoy*

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:18 pm ET
Haha! I like that! Since it's about Affliction it is atleast somewhat on topic and relevant though.

I agree though time to get back to fights!

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:26 pm ET
Haha fair enough...so I've booked my first for April  Corey

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:27 pm ET
first fight*....damn I think it was submitted too many times today

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:34 pm ET
Really? I'm jealous! I wish I could compete but it seems unlikely for the moment at least.

I'm sure we talked about this but what's your style again? Or are you just an all around guy for most part?

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:40 pm ET
I was a boxer for 12 years but have been training for a few years at team Tompkins but now train at Adrenaline in London,Ont with Stout,Hominick,Hordecki and BJJ instr Rowan Cunningham and not to mention TKO contender Chris Clements. So I fight April 3rd in Halifax, should be interesting!

coreymb on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:46 pm ET
Oh yeah, I remember all that. I just wasn't sure if I had the right screen name! I brought up I'm a fan of Stouts kickboxing skills I believe!

That's a good camp you are training at to say the least. I'm going to get back into training more frequent in hopes of getting into some action but the latter part is doubtful.

Good luck though for sure!

PunchingBag on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:50 pm ET
Thank you my friend

CubanLinx on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:14 pm ET
Quach, Davis Hominick all need to move to WEC

MMASupreme on Jan 13, 2009 at 5:27 pm ET

Quach is a beast! Can't wait.

I still want to see Quach vs Reis for the EliteXC FW Belt, darn it!

ThePsycho on Jan 13, 2009 at 8:54 pm ET
Wow, that's one BIG downgrade, but also insignificant to the entire card.
