British presenter David Frost taking on Nixon
One of the great political interviews of the 1970s, British TV presenter David Frost interviewing former US president Richard Nixon about Watergate. And what was so surprising about the interview was watching the former US president unravel in the presence of a TV personality who was more at home interviewing the Bee Gees than hard-nosed political figures.
The interview, conducted in 1977, is the subject of a new film called Frost/Nixon, directed by Ron Howard, showing across the country now.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the story is how a team of journalists prepped Frost to take on Nixon in the interview. One of those journalists was Bob Zelnick, played by Oliver Platt in the film. The real Bob Zelnick speaks to us on Summer Breakfast.
