FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the symposium.

NEW! Is wireless internet access available?

Yes, wireless internet access will be available. Details and the user name and password will be given to the participants on site.

Is the conference only for European students?

No, we welcome participants from all over the world. For example in Zadar in 2008 there were close to 400 people from 26 countries, from South Africa to the United States. Although the symposium primarily targets students, professionals are also welcome to participate.

The registration will begin November 3rd, and it is mandatory for all who wish to participate. The prices will include e.g. a 3-day ticket for local transportation, social events in the evenings, guided visits, and lunches at the university. (First-night dinner will cost extra 5 euros.)

What is the procedure for the papers that are accepted for the symposium?

First you have to send an extended abstract through the OpenConf system. The deadline for the abstracts is July 15th.

Then a group of teachers and students from the universities of Porto and Tampere will read and evaluate the abstracts and choose the best and most appropriate 40, who will be asked to send full papers. The notifications will be sent by September 15 (old date: September 1). The deadline for full papers is October 30th. Please see the contributions page for more details.

The procedure is similar for the poster and workshop proposals as well.

The abstracts will be printed and distributed for the participants at the conference. The full papers will be published in an open access archive.

Can I attend even if I'm not a presenter of a paper/poster/workshop?

Yes, there will be plenty of tickets available also for people who didn't get their proposal through, or didn't send one.

Is it possible to give a presentation even though I haven't sent an abstract?

Only those who have sent an extended abstract and then given a notification of acceptance are able to give a presentation. The time limit for the presentation of a full paper is 30 minutes.

In what language will the sessions be held?

The language of the conference is English. This means that all papers, workshops and posters will (and should) be in English.

Will the participants receive a certificate?

Yes, the certificate of participation will be in a conference bag, which is given to the participants.
