SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 miniEdition, commonly called the "mini", is the CD release of the latest SabayonLinux x86/x86-64 DVD. The creation of this special version, has been made with an automatic script that shrinks down the whole chroot jail by removing every duplicated, useless or server-oriented package. The multimedia features of these special editions are kept intact. So, enjoy that beautiful piece of software on a single CD!

great, just downloading the mini edition, it comes 2 days too late. had to reinstall after a broken xorg-update on friday, grrrr.
anyway, if it is as good as the dvds it will be great.
it will be a long night after 14 very hard hours of work today (a cook's kharma :thumright: )...

If you have a download manager that supports metalinks (like aria2 http://aria2.sourceforge.net/), try these:
http://impfarm.imp.org/~nico/sabayon/

Example with aria2:
$ aria2c -M http://impfarm.imp.org/~nico/sabayon/Sa ... o.metalink

You can also download the .metalink and point aria2c to the file (just use a local path instead of the URL). Feedback appreciated, particularly let me know if it actually improves your download speed!

NOTE: they have no per-chunk checksums. Until Hampus's Metalink Editor supports extracting checksums from a .torrent, I have to first download the miniEditions myself to calculate the piece checksums...

Yep. Make your BitTorrent client download where the iso already is, or the equivalent: move the iso where your BitTorrent client would save it.

I tried to install the full version on a 10gb partition on my laptop and failed miserably. I think the mini edition might be for me. What is missing in the mini edition, anyway? Does it still have openoffice, gimp, firefox, etc. installed? Do they just have KDE or does even the mini include KDE, Gnome, etc.

Also, howcome the Sabayon installation is so huge compared to other distros?. For example, Ubuntu installs from a DVD and yet it only takes up approx 2gb after install, which is TINY compared to Sabayon's 12gb. I imagine this has something to do with having the entire source tree on the hard drive, so is there an easy way to store all of the source code on a compressed partition? If so, why isn't this recommended or done by default?
