Bleach is a paranormal anime that airs on Tokyo TV. In the U.S. the show airs on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block and on YTV in Canada.
Ichigo Kurosaki comes from a family with the ability to see and talk to spirits, which is probably why he can see the shinigami (Soul Reaper) Rukia Kuckiki when she trespasses in his bedroom one night. Soul Reapers are warrior spirits who guide innocent spirits to the Soul Society and protect both living and dead from corrupt souls known as Hollows. When Rukia is critically injured protecting Ichigo and his family from a particularly nasty Hollow, she is forced to share her power with Ichigo—who ends up taking it all!
The now-powerless Rukia pressures Ichigo to cover for her until she gets her abilities back, becoming a "substitute Soul Reaper" charged with killing Hollows, and protecting the more spiritually-enabled citizens of his neighborhood—who just so happen to be some of Ichigo's family and friends.
